New Coupe, minor clutch issue.

I got my new 2004 Coupe and I absolutely love it! I've been driving stick for many years and one thing I noticed is that my car slightly stuggles to get into first gear no matter what I do. I guess I'll call the dealership to see what's up. Anyone else have this problem when they first got the coupe?

do you mean that you are having trouble smoothly shifting into first? thats normal, you will get used to the way the clutch feels, its a little different than most cars... so a smooth start is tougher to do.

RamboRami- is right. Our clutch is hard to get use to. I just ease off the clutch very slowly and smoothly while shifting. I help this helps.

Re: New Coupe, minor clutch issue.

Not sure if this is the same thing I've noticed. When I ease off the clutch to start rollin in 1st gear, it's not as smooth especially going uphill. There's some shaking or something as if its gonna stall if you dont put on more gas or if you let off the clutch sooner. That's why sometimes I have to rev it up a little more, but I hate this to do this sometimes because our exhausts aren't that quiet and ppl tend to think I'm showing off or going to race.

Been driving stick for sooo long but usually on 4-bangers and they're much smoother rolling off in 1st gear than this G. Anyone has the same experience?

Re: New Coupe, minor clutch issue.

The dealership I bought the car at sent a driver to pick up the car and drop of my loaner - they said the minor bumps/clutch chatter in first gear is on all G35 Coupes if you are "lurking" out of first gear. Apparently the Coupe's clutch is set for aggressive accelerating out of first gear. They told me if it gets any worse to give them a call back. They dropped off my car yesterday.

Oh by the way I bought my car at Winner Porsche, Audi, Infiniti and I HIGHLY recommend them!

So how should we launch the car?

Re: New Coupe, minor clutch issue.

the G Coupe's clutch is adjusted for "spirited" driving, but you can launch it however you wish - with different launch methods for different purposes - I'm just saying that when you accelerate out of first gear and feather into second gear (instead of slowly getting into first maintaining your speed in first and then shifting into second) you will feel a much smoother shift.

in other cars this is not the case.

Re: New Coupe, minor clutch issue.

Sorry - I missed the "out of first" in your post the first time I read it. I don't think I ever maintain speed in first except when I'm slowly moving around in a parking garage. I'm still relatively new to driving MT, and I've noticed the thing I have the most problem with is being smooth going into 2nd gear out of first. For some reason, I have to think about it to be really smooth.

Re: New Coupe, minor clutch issue.

I've been reluctant to get the RPM's that high on normal starts (except on hills) because I feel like I'm wearing out the clutch more that way, even if it's smoother. I'll have to play around with it. Thanks for the help.
