Stop Sign Ticket :[

Hey all,

About three weeks ago around 10 at night, i got a ticket for allegedly not making a full stop on one of the stop signs on Charles E. Young Street on the UCLA campus. When the officer told i failed to stop at the stop sign, i was kind of confused because i swore i stopped on all the signs. Out of the two stop signs i had to go through, she said i just slightly tapped my brake for the first stop, and i made the full stop on the second stop sign.

However, i plan on fighting the ticket because i know i made a complete stop; i only needed tap my brakes to make the full stop because i was on an incline. My car is manual, so before i meet a stop on an incline, i push in the clutch and tap my brakes enough to make that stop. Im guessing the officer was far away and just saw my brake lights turn on for 2 seconds, thinking that i didn't make the stop. It was then that she zoomed up behind me after i passed the second stop sign, that she pulled me over.

I know that its going to be "my word against hers", but i know what i did and i know i made the stop. And of all days, she had to pull me over on me and my girl's 4 year anniversary.

So how do you guys think this will go. any experience with fighting "failure to stop at stop sign tickets?"

Thank you so much fellas,

-James

It should go fine. Judges are not always as unreasonable as people say they are. I know it is your word against hers, but what you are saying makes sense. If I were you, I would make a digram of what happened and take a few pictures of the stop sign on an incline to further prove your point.

However, first ask the officer, in front of the court, where they were located when they witnessed you making your incomplete stop, then explain where you saw the officer pull out of from behind you, and then go on to explain your case as to why it may have appeared you didn't stop.

You may be able to meet with the prosecutor before the court date. I had the same ticket before and met with the DA. The situation was a little different, but he gave me the choice between taking a driving class or getting a pre-trial diversion. Both choices erased the ticket as long as I had no moving violations within the next 6 months. I took the diversion and drove carefully. Best of luck.

West L.A. Stop

I taught my wife to drive in that area, clutch....gas....brake HAHA If you
believe you did make this stop and that you're right fight the ticket. You
need to ask yourself with school and the rest of whatever might be going
on in your life do you have the time, is it worth the hassle?

I think its well worth the effort. i mean in the end, even if i am found guilty, the only cost would have been my effort and time. As a college student, its important to me that i save every dollar.

I got mine dissmised, I told them it was on a hill and I was unfamiliar with the area, so I didn't know there was a stop sign there because there was a tall bush in front of it. Which they were all lies, but they don't know how every street looks like. just a tip.
