Do the Brembos get you better stopping distance??

Just wodnering if the Brembos actually give any stopping distance advantage. I know they are BIG brakes and definitely help for heat dissipation (so less brake overheats) but do they actually affect normal braking performance in any way?

From what I have read, the biigest advanatage would be better fade resistance than the regular brakes. However, the regular brakes are EXCELLENT.

PHUK YA they work good. Work as good as they look. I've never really trusted breaks, but I have confidence in these.

I've gotten in some close calls and the Brembos stopped me on a dime with style. you see cars slam their breaks at a stop light and the whole car dips forward? Seems like the g35coupe never loses it's pose, just stops and no nose dip.

Re: Do the Brembos get you better stopping distanc

I drove the auto w/o the Brembos and I have the 6MT with them. Both are excellent stoppers. I'd expect the Brembos to be more resistant to abuse, so if you're not one to thrash your car, you'll probably never miss them. I would not have paid extra for them since I don't intend to drve the crap out of my car, but I do like the way they look..

Not trying to argue with you OvaYahead, but nose dip (usually referred to as "nose dive") has little to do with braking power, but more with suspension tuning.

That being said, probably the biggest advantage of the brembos is their fade resistance.

Suspension tuning and also has to do with the EBD system. (electronic brake-force distribution)

oh ya, I forgot about suspension too.

How much work does the front breaks do vs. the rear breaks?

60/40?

Re: Do the Brembos get you better stopping distance??

Brembos have 4 piston calipers and a larger brake rotor, it's pretty simple to see which will stop faster:

Brembo= 4 piston caliper with 12" brake rotor
Stock= 2 piston caliper with 11" brake rotor

The Brembo has a larger surface area and more power due to the 4 piston clamping force.

Remember, it's not speed what kills you, it's stopping that does.

Re: Do the Brembos get you better stopping distance??

Raysur, but even the poorest brake is able to clamp down hard enough to lock the wheels, would a larger rotor and more pistons = better clamping really affect braking distances?

I had this argument with a friend - it seemed to me that a larger brake with more pistons would lead to shorter stopping distances, but he kept bringing up that even a smaller/less powerful brake has enough power to clamp down on the wheel, so the smaller brake shouldn't be any less effective at stopping the car. (unless the brake overheats in which case the larger rotor is able to dissipate heat better and would be more effective) He argues, and it makes sense to me, that the entire braking system (the EBD in the G's case) is more responsible for its superb braking than the brakes themselves.

Re: Do the Brembos get you better stopping distance??

You're right mani about the size and the number of pistons on the caliper. This only assists on the stopping of the car and not fully stopping the car. But its great on Fade and heavy repeated use. Since the rotor is larger, it will dissapate heat better. One of the main factors that everyone forgets is the tires.

But yes you're right, larger calipers and rotors do not make a difference in stopping distance compared to the smaller ones if you do not take Fade into effect.

Re: Do the Brembos get you better stopping distance??

The Brembo's will probably fade less under heavy braking. When I test drove a G35 with and without Brembo's, the biggest difference that I felt was that the Brembo's had better brake modulation. The regular brakes work great, but they were a tad touchy and it was hard to go from no brake to really stopping. I liked the more progressive feel of the Brembo's.

Re: Do the Brembos get you better stopping distance??

My Brembo brakes have been squeaking these past two days. Anyone have an idea why?
