Re: New Escort Passport 8500 X50 Edition

I'm only 25, 26 soon! I've had 4 different detectors in my time, and by far all other have been $hit compared to my Escort 7500's'. I swear by it! Now the 8500 is supposted to be better... All I can tell you is that I love mine!

Re: New Escort Passport 8500 X50 Edition

Dont want to start a flame war... but I have extensive experience with the V1 and the 8500. The 8500 is hands down a better unit. Its range is farther, its louder, cheaper, and smaller than the V1.
The V1 falses more, and is not as loud as the 8500. I used to be a staunch supporter of the V1 until I tried the 8500. I found the 8500 has better KA protection and much better over the hill protection.
The V1 is no slouch, but its WAY overpriced and has not been updated in 2 years, maybe their next revision will put them back on top.

Re: New Escort Passport 8500 X50 Edition

Question: I own a Escort Solo S2. What is the difference between that & the 8500 x50 edition, other than Solo S2 is cordless? Is the Solo S2 able to be upgraded? To anyone who responds - thanks for the info.

In reply to:

I decided to make the switch to the Whistler because I liked the hidden and integrated aspect of the Whistler 3400. And nothing in my windshield to get in my way.

I've heard great things about the Passport SR7 and the SRX if you need a hidden RD. Pricey though.

I'm still a fan of the V-1. Yes, it's slightly wider than the 8500, but the 8500 is significantly longer than the V-1, so I'd say the Passport looks smaller, but actually is bigger. The arrows are worth the falsing IMO. I traded with a buddy for a week to try out his 8500. I had a hard time reading the 'Expert Meter' quickly, so it wasn't very useful to me. I couldn't wait to get mine back and he now has a V-1!

For radar detectors it's actually better to be longer than wider as it blocks less of your view. I have the 8500 and I'm quite happy with it. Although very rare, it has detected laser and it's quite alarming when it does as it's a different sound and it's flashing "laser" on the display.

Re: New Escort Passport 8500 X50 Edition

The cordless feature of the Solo S2 is nice but not worth the loss in effectiveness. I personally don't believe that a battery operated Radar Detector will be as robust as a powered detector. As is my humble understanding though, the S2 and the standard 8500 are suppose to be the same except for the cordless capability. I don't think that the S2 is upgradeable unless they come out with a new version (like 8500 standard vs. 8500 x50).

Just FYI: If you call and order over the phone, you can get FREE shipping. I was about to order it online but had a question if there were any functional difference between the "Red" vs "Blue". The lady said if I placed an order now on the phone, she'd throw in FREE shipping, so I saved $13.95.

Valentine One is the best, but a little more expensive. But after a traffic ticket and accompanying insurance hike with the others, I'm sure you won't mind paying the extra.

Just consider one of the co-designers of Escort Passport (runner-up) was Mike Valentine (creator of Valentine One). He left the company and made the best radar detector on the market (consistently ranked #1 by Car & Driver...last test at
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=1993

Note, not best for the money. Best period. If you want to see for yourself, buy the Escort and Valentine and take their 30-day trial. After you try the arrows (true radar LOCATOR) vice detector, you'll agree....Valentine One is the best.

Re: New Escort Passport 8500 X50 Edition

Ive got an Escort Solo, the model before the new blue one. It works good enough for me in cordless mode, but probably was more sensitive before i lost the plug in cord. My dad's 7500 false reads Ka band all the time.
