Is there a consensus that the tiptronic gets better gas mileage?

In M4 and M5 gears, the tiptronic doesn't lock up completely. However in Drive, the 4th and 5th do lock up completely, which saves gas. Carefully try switching from D to M5 on the highway and the revs go up about 5%. On a long highway drive, Drive would use less gas than M5.

The tiptronic could save gas in the city because you can choose your shift points.

I calculate my gas mileage on every tank. I am always in Drive. I don't notice any gas mileage difference if I drive conservative or aggressive. The biggest impact is when I am stuck in traffic, the mileage stinks. When I am on the highway, it is 20 mpg or more.

400-420 highway and 350-375 city seems to be what others are getting.

Your ~29MPG, was that figured by your navigation or what you calculated when you filled up your tank?

If you got ~29MPG and filled up when the fuel light hits, the full refill at that point should be right at ~16.5 gallons, which would equate to ~480 miles a tank.

Just wanting clarification, was that how many miles you got out of 16.5 gallons (a full tank when the light comes on, give or take 10-15 miles) and your particular driving method?

Just filled up today and, I'm getting right at 23MPG on my 2K6 coupe. I drive conservatively but, floor it every now and then. I rarely drive it and it has less than 10K on it, not sure if that has anything to do with the mileage. I mostly drive my other car, a 2K MAX SE, it has a 3.0 and even that used to give me 22-24 MPG when it was new, now that old car gives me 20MPG. These engines are fuel efficient even in hot weather, seems that it's peoples driving habits that get them in trouble.

I do a lot of hwy driving for work and typically get around 430 miles on a tank. I usually drive speed limit +10 so I am not being that conservative. By my calculations I am averaging 25 mpg overall on 93 octane.

The 29.5 was just for the trip itself, from Columbus to Cleveland as calculated by my nav, I couldn't actually refill/test it out becauase the first 60 miles on the tank was city. T
here was some spirited driving in Cleveland as well and I averaged 28.5 on the way back to Columbus. So that's why I didn't get 29 for the whole tank. I believe whole tank was 25.5 or 26 mpg...I forget the exact number, so mostly highway probably a bit over 325 mi, and the rest was city, some was spirited.

I figured it was pretty accurate because even with the 100 or so mi of city driving, I managed near 26mpg.
