Gas Mileage- 374 Miles a tank!
Hey all,
I know there are a lot of threads on gas mileage but a lot of them have been cluttered up with gas prices and what not.
I just recently acquired a 2006 6MT G35 Coupe. When I got it, it had 200 miles on half a tank recorded. I drove it casually and got 320 miles total right when the fuel light came on. I calculated out of this tank, I was getting 19.5MPG.
Since my ownership, today was the first real test. I got 374 miles out of it. I refilled the tank and it topped out at 16.50 gallons; equalling out to be ~23MPG.
I actually was driving it pretty normally; shifting around 4,000RPM, 75% throttle, crusing at 65-70mph on the highway. For me, it was 75% highway and 25% city, which for me, is real scenario because that's exactly what I do.
I'm seen threads of people getting all the way up to 425 miles per tank all the way down to only 275 miles per tank.
Just thought I would share my experience.
UPDATE: 6/22/08
From what I've gathered in both this thread and many others I've researched on, this is what I've concluded:
On average, I think realistically the average G Coupe owner can look for ~330-350 a tank with freeway driving and 300-320 a tank with city driving.
That's average 19MPG city and 22MPG highway, dead on the factory city rating and a hair lower for the factory highway rating.
Anything below that, little too heavy on the foot...anything above that, more on the conservative side of driving a G Coupe.
Hope this thread helps out a few folks on determining if their gas mileage is where it needs to be for their driving habits/environment and the little things you can do to improve it.

Nice! My tank is about to top out at around 330miles... I was actually on pace for 300 miles before the gas light even came on, but I made the mistake of driving the car in "D" when I reached under the half tank mark../
This just proved to me that "D" wastes more gas as I've reached 360 miles a tank w/ using all triptronic.

I don't have much experience with tiptronic other than my sister-in-law's Boxster.
According to what you're saying and have proven, on an AT, running in D definately eats up more gas than in tiptronic mode.

Also when you push down to give it more gas it will often over exaggerate how much throttle you are giving it and it will often downshift which= more, and higher RPMS. In the triptronic mode you can give it more gas without downshifting at all, its more smooth.

Do you cruise in 6th? At what speeds? Do you leave the windows down? Do you downshift to overtake?
My 374 miles was achieved mainly by:
#1. Crusing in 60/65mph on the highway. (set cruise control)
#2. Getting into 5th/6th gear as soon as possible in both city/highway
#3. Windows up when traveling on highway
#4. No real overtaking since I'm the slow poke going 60/65mph in a 70 zone

o well..
