Check this before your powertrain warranty is up!
Thanks for the heads up. The reason I joined this forum (as of today) is to find out all of the typical costly problems that a G35 has. I'm getting one at the end of next year and it's going to be my first purchase of over 10000 so I'm trying to make it a painless as possible process.
What exactly should I specifically ask them to check for to make sure the problem isn't there or won't be happening soon?

This thread still going on about this huh?
I made a post about a year ago and this is nothing new for cars who have this same valve cover setup. No matter what car you drive that has this setup. There is always going to be an isue with oil in the plug wells at every 30k to 60k.
Larger seals won't fix it, torqing the bolts down won't fix it, unless the bolts are not torqued correctly. Using RTV is not recommened for fear of it being squished out and breaking off and clogging up an oil passage.
Nissan is not going to fix it and if you have a dealership that fixes it for you by replacing the seals then consider yourself lucky. Just make a mental note that the seals will have to be replaced at the next 60K interval. I think by then most people will have sold thier cars and moved on.

Dealer said its not so much the mileage but the time frame. It just gets brittle after certain amount of time and starts to leak. Whats really irritating is that you have to purchase an entire valve cover just to change the gasket.
fwiw, I still haven't replaced my valve covers - its not a hyper-sensitive issue (iow its not going to create critical problems)... but eventually I do plan on replacing... trying to figure out how to get the covers under warranty but replace myself (so I can have them painted)... so far I cant find a dealer that will warranty the part without them installing.
Unfortunately, I did not check my spark plugs for oil before my warranty is up on my 2004 G35 Coupe. Has anyone tried to complain to Infiniti corporate about the product quality and finding the oil leak before the warranty is up and checking to see if they would cover the fix for this? I'm sure the dealership can not help you if you are out of warranty, but Infiniti corporate may do something if enough of us complain. I was thinking about calling customer support and writing to infiniti, but didn't want to if the community already knows I have no chance. What's your take?
Also, my girlfriend has a 2007 G35 sedan. I am worried that her model may have the same problem. She has about 50K on her car. Should I worry and check her spark plugs/valve covers or have they improved their design since then?
Any information would be helpful.

Is your factory warranty of your G good at any Infiniti dealership, because i bought mine used at a Honda dealership. It is still under factory warranty, 07, 25,000 mi, but i also do have a bumper to bumper with the Honda dealership.
This is probably a dumb/noob question, but...
how am i supposed to check to see if i have this problem? without me opening the car myself? could i take it to the dealership?

I found I had this problem years ago (before it became such an issues on the site)... and I haven't replaced the covers (yet)...
I wouldn't be overly concerned about it - but when it comes time to change plugs (or if you intend to upgrade), you'll know if there's oil or not.
Installed some iridiums, and found out that I too have the blasted leak on my 04! I'm at 74k. Luckily, I have the Elite. Bringing in this Wednesday. Hopefully they don't give me BS on all the bolt-ons. Infiniti of Scottsdale is usually pretty good, so will post back later this week on the results.
#5 & #6 leaking good. Replaced valve covers under warranty and found transverse link bushing they repaired too. Glad it's fixed!

Saw this thread and got alarmed since my warranty will be up this July, so decided to check all my plugs this morning. To my surprise all of them were completely dry
As soon as I get some time I will be making the makeshift catch can, since I know there is oil on the intake manifold already.
Here are a couple of pics of #6

I have a 1st gen G and when I purchased it, I also bought the extended warranty which would cover me in the event that this happens to me. I just hit 60k miles so it's time for my tune up. I will mention this at the dealer so they can check it. Thanks for the heads up. By the way, the warranties are worth it if you are approaching higher mileage. I only drive my G to and from work (about 9 miles each way) and weekend driving cause I work a stupid amount of hours but it's nice to have good peeps on this site looking out for us.
I dont think its an issue for 07s...
