Good thing I found this thread...I checked my '04 (68k mi) for an oil leak and it did have some serious pooling in cylinder #6. I took it to the dealership last week and they were cool enough to change both valve covers. Plus, they also changed the spark plugs for free. I'm so glad I bought the extended warranty when I bought the car two and a half years ago.

Ok so I know that I am way out of warrenty, never got the extension. So im just going to change the valve covers, Just wanted to make sure that I have everything before I start. Along with replacing the covers, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, what other gaskets and other parts, etc... am I going to need to get this done??

I found a place online where I could pick up both covers and gaskets for the covers for about $400.00 -http://www.thenismoshop.com/Nissan-Factory-OEM-Valve-Cover--Nissan-350z-Infiniti-G35_p_1130.html

I've heard of a lot of dealerships replacing the covers, gaskets, and spark plugs free of charge under warranty (this is excluding the deductible if you have one, depends on your extended warranty plan) but mine was a real dick at Kearny Mesa Infiniti and wanted to charge me a buttload for labor when others had it done free even when I brought my own spark plug replacements in initially.
Eventually they did it without charging labor after having contacted Infiniti Consumer Affairs TWICE, but I still had to bring in my own sparks

Hopefully your dealership is one of the nice ones that will replace everything free of charge!

I just changed all my plugs and found oil in cylinder 6. All I did was clean the spark plug tubes and the oil that pools above the spark plug. Didn't replace the valve covers. Would this cause any problems?

your valve cover is leaking. You'll start to smell oil burning as it will drip on the engine. One way or another, you'll need to replace the gasket

I replaced my own plugs first, the dealer covered the VC's, labor, etc. I doubt they would have covered the plugs since they were original and ~60k miles. I had misfire codes originally which was when I found the problem, plugs were toast and 2-3 cyls full of oil.

might not smell any burning oil if only the spark plug tubes are leaking - my only indication was misfire codes, the tubes are pretty well sealed.
