my infiniti dealer said it'll cost me money for them to check my plugs even while i'm paying for my oil change.
has anyone gotten the dealer to check for free and how?

Thanks

It's the dealer what do you expect?

There's a DIY thread for plugs. It's not too bad if I reminder right. Just remove the intake and the bolts that hold the coil wires.

Where is cylinder #6?
Going from the passenger side to the driver side are the cylinders 1-6 or 6-1 or a different combination.

Thanks for answering my question! Appreciate it.

Then I wondered where the other plugs go so I did some research.
For G35, Firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6

Passenger side front to rear are plugs 1-3-5
Driver side front to rear are plugs 2-4-6

^^
Enjoy!

The dealership will charge anywhere from 700 - 1200. You were at the dealership right? How much did they quote you?

You just need to replace 2 valve covers, a few gaskets and 6 sparkplugs.

Valvecovers will cost you about $200 each.

:(

So I had some oil in plug 6.
Didn't check others and just brought the car in.
Valve covers will be replaced under powertrain (my powertrain ends next month! WHEW!)
I wanted them to replace my plugs for free but they wouldn't since they said it was a "maintenance" items
I told them some others got the plugs replaced for free but I had to provide my own and they would provide free labor to get them replaced

Anyways, got a loaner for the next 2 days.

Can anyone please post the "how to" (or point me to the existing one) on how to check this?

The video in the OP's post only shows how he takes the plug out and looks at it. But I would like to know what I need to take apart first (and how to).

Thanks!

Here is a DIY.
I just searched "G35 spark plug DIY" ...

Not necessarily. I called Infiniti of Tampa Bay today to see about my powertrain warranty. I gave the service advisor my VIN# and he told me my warranty expired 7/30/2009. I told him I had a 2005 and was referring to the "powertrain" warranty and not the "basic" warranty. He said "Nope" there was no warranty left and kind of cut me off. I said "thank you" and decided to call back later since I knew he was wrong. but I also knew he kind of told me what I needed to know since I was mainly interested in the month and the day of the expiration (since I knew I had 6yrs from 2005). When I called back later I intended to speak to a manager but the lady service advisor on the phone knew exactly what I was talking about. She looked up my VIN#, calculated the 6yrs from the "Born ON" date that she found for my car and told me my powertrain warranty expired 7/30/2011 (this Saturday). I explained that I wanted an inspection before it expired and she basically said "No problem". I go in this Wednesday.

I know there will be a cost involved but that's OK. I'm going to buy 6 spark plugs and have them change them out and check the valve covers and the plug wells for oil while they're in there. It clearly states "rocker covers" in the powertrain covered items so if they try to give me a hard time I'll just show them their own warranty documentation.
I got my foot in the door now we'll see how it goes.

So, Kearny Mesa Infiniti called me back and told me the valve covers would be replaced under warranty, however, the spark plugs do not need to be removed to replace the valve covers so I would have to pay $130 labor cost to replace the spark plugs I provided. Also, the spark plug fouled with oil will NOT be covered under warranty since they claim it is a "maintenance item". Does this sound right or are they trying to get my money? Quick replies would be awesome. I'm suppose to pick up the car tonight...
