BMW 760i story w/VDC

So here goes the story... I spent 3 hours total washing/waxing my car yesterday after work so it's nice and shiny. I was sweaty, tired, and felt the need to reward myself by... what else... to drive my shiny new G... =) I drove up the expressway near my house redlining at every light with a smile from ear to ear. Then I made a U-turn to go back home and as I'm slowing down at a redlight, I see a car with bright HID lights approaching REALLY fast and he pulls next to me as the light the turns red and rolls down the window. I looked over and it's a 7-series, but I couldn't tell exactly what (745 or 760) at that point. I lowered my window and he says "nice car" and gave me a thumbs up. I looked over and said the same... =) He then said, "Wanna give it a go?"... I've never raced anyone in my new G yet (fart can civics, riced-out integras, super sticker accords, etc don't count)... Looked around, straight away non-residential area with trees on both sides... wide lanes, 75 degrees, radar detector on... you get the point...so I said "Sure!!". Rolled window up...

Light turns GREEN:
At this when I punch the gas in 1st... in the back of my mind, I could've sworn I've read somewhere that... "V D C OFF!!!" from other forum members. Well, of course it was too late as VDC came on as I squeeled my tires in 1st, and he gains a good 1.5 car lengths on my at which time I realized it was a V12 760... I quickly turned off VDC after putting in 2nd... by that time I was a good 3 car lengths behind again due to our pal VDC... Pop into 3rd and we were holding ground minus VDC... I was able to keep ground with him until I'm sure his montrous V-12 took over past the century mark... at which point I let up... I pulled up... he gave a thumbs up and I did the same but was pissed with VDC!!!. He made a U-turn cause he apparently went out of his way to check how his car would hang with my G... Anyhow... a good day's worth of fun! Car wash, wax, cruising with a BMW 760, and best of all...an ADRENALINE RUSH!!! =)

Just wanted to share my fun with you guys... =D

you should have run it again, even though he is faster, without vdc.

i haven't raced anyone. i doubt i could do the launch the right way.

once i did the subtle race against an older bmw convert, not a 328 or 330. no competition.

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Nice story. You should be flattered that the guy went out of his way in what is a very fine specimen of an automobile. He thought highly enough of you to make the challenge and sounds like you hung in there pretty well.

Yea... the guy was very nice... in his mid-40's, and his car was incredible shiny just like mine, so I could tell he's a car enthusiast. I went home thinking I should've made a U to do it all again with VDC "off"!! I usually never race, actually, never have until yesterday... but I wanted to see how my G would fare against his 7 series... Friendly race, nothing dangerous or anything as there were no cars, no buildings, people, etc... just nice open road with scenic views and trees on both sides. When I see nice cars and people take good care of the car, I check them out as well... =)

According to the review in Edmunds.com, the 2003 760 does just a touch over 6 second 0-60. I don't know about the quarter mile but if Edmunds is correct you do have a shot!

Rashman: My uncle has a 745 and it's pretty quick straightaway, and I was just curious to see how my G compares... a little curiosity can't hurt. =) Plus, how often do you get some guy in a 7-series wanting to gun it off the line with you? My uncle drives his 745 like a slow 318 ... he barely ever reaches 4k+ rpm if ever...
I'm still a bit little irked with the VDC... but... safety first I guess...

btw... nice selection of car: 2004 Diamond Graphite G35 Coupe 6MT, Premium Package, Aero Package, DVD Nav... I have the same thing... have about 1900 miles so far.

the 760li would eat our G's once it reaches highway speeds. Good thing u raced from a roll...if you had vdc off, the launch would have been very close since the bmw is a HEAVY beast. Some people get all the luck btw...the only race i've had was with a fixed up civic late at night(only time i would even consider racing) and I walked pretty easily.
