While on this topic... anyone know if the fob just pops apart to change the battery? I tried but it felt pretty sturdy, don't want to break any clips in there, but I think the battery is starting to fade!

 

Yes it does. I doubt it's the battery though since you have an '07. The batteries in my remotes seem to last forever.

 

Thanks, the distance isn't what it used to be.... used to be able to hit it and have the windows roll down, but now I have to get like 15 feet from the car before the car recognizes the remote... if not the bat, then what?

 

Try your spare remote - it could be the battery. If so, you must use the window rolldown feature a lot!

 

Haha, bought the car used, no spare remote... and yes, use rolldown EVERY day... hot as heck with Black on Black in the Texas heat!

I really think I might just jump and buy a spare fob.... am I correct that you can do everything without having to have the actual insert key at all? Like if I buy a new spare fob, after programming I can star the car and everything?

 

What do you have now? Do you have a standard fob or intellikey? Your car has to be equipped with intellikey - you can't just buy the remote.

 

If you have the standard fob, it only takes about a minute to program, if that. There's an extra step since you are doing it with 2 fobs but it's easy. You don't have to do anything with the key so right after you program your fobs, everything will work like it was before.

 

Yeah, I think I just have the standard keyfob, doesn't do seat memory or anything... just doors/trunk and alarm.... oval shape with a key that can be removed for valet.... I know the fobs aren't all that expensive (on her and ebay) and I have seen the DIY instrucitons for programming it.... just wasn't sure if the slide in key was necessary... if I have to buy the slide in key I would have to get dealer to cut it, right?
