WOW almost BIT IT the other day on freeway

k so im going down the freeway Interstate 80 here in cali, and im crusing middle lane at 80mph... and yes like an idiot i said let me respond to this txt.. well i try not to txt while driving so i look down 2 seconds then my 2 passengers say look out.. the car in front of me switched lanes and what do i see, SOMETHING in the middle of the road , i thought at first Oldschool computer screen. ... so knowing im doing 80 i jerk the steering wheel to the right.. then my back end slides into the next lane and almost into the rail... i don't break during this whole time only let go of the gas., then i feel the car jerk back the opposite way,, and im thinking PLZ dont swing back one more time or that might mean were gonna loose it.. and to my luck after the 2nd tail whip i got control back.. WHOA!!! thank goodness for while wheels cuz i felt them grip ever inch of that road, and after that we said, "deng what if there had been a car next to me when i steered into the other lane, oh and we found out it was only a car seat, if id of known id of much rather his the car seat then risk losing it on the freeway, mid afternoon....

what do we learn from all of this,,, SCREW texting while driving.. all it takes is 1 second..

drive safe.. Godbless

Something similar happened to me a while back, but I wasn't texting, I was looking down to see in what direction I had to push the lever in my wife's passat to change gears while in tiptronic, I look down for a second and right after that I see this guy next to me swerve into my lane, I swerved to avoid him onto the shoulder and had the car drift a bit because we were on a long curve, thankfully the passat was a 4 motion and had great tires and I was able to regain control almost instantly. I caught up to him and flipped him off as much as I could. Keep safe out there!!

Be safe out there, people. You're not only endangering your life, but also the lives of your passengers and other motorists on the road.

Same reason I hate all cell phones, and people who put their GPS basically on the other side of the car. Glad you pulled through.

Yup only takes a second. My best friend took a sec to spit out the window and rear ended someone.

Glad it turned out good. I drive a semi for a living and I cant even tell you how much my blood boils when I leave X amount of space between me and the vehicles in front of me. Just to have some asz hat jump in there. Just a FYI for those that do not know. Im roughly 45000lbs empty and 75-80ft long. It would take me the length of a football field to spot completely from 55mph. So if you(you as in broad us) are the type that see' that gap in front of a semi and fel like squeezing in. Keep in mind if traffic spots suddenly YOU WILL get hit....

RAS would have kept your butt from sliding.

Anyways... glad nothing happen, life is way to fun to end it quickly.

So what's the deal with people sending back and forth 100 txt messages instead of having a 1 min conversation.

Ya things happen so fast. When I was riding with my friend he briefly checked his blind spot when the car in front of us braked suddenly at the same time. I yelled at him and he luckily caught it before we rear ended the car in front of us. So sometimes you can still do everything right and still get caught by bad luck. Thankfully it didn't happen to my friend.

I only text in like unpopulated city areas, or at a red light or something.

Yeah the only near-accidents attributed to my behavior I've had in years have been due to texting.

IMO it's far more dangerous than talking on a cell WITHOUT hands-free
