Warranty Question

Does anyone know if my warranty covers a cracked timing belt? The dealer said I need to replace mine and it would cost me $195. I still have 2 years left on my warranty if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help.

no it's not covered
it's a "wear and tear" item

how many miles? the belts might show crack, but it still might be good!

No, it is not covered under warranty. That is because the Gs do not have timing belts. All Nissan VQ engines use chains to timing control. You can not see these without taking the front covers off so I doubt that is what the guy meant and it would cost a heck of a lot more than $195.

Oh...well in that case I would agree. It is a wear and tear item and minor cracking is not an issue.

Big question is the amount of mileage on the vehicle. Timing chain should go for what? 60K miles or 75K in general? If the timing chain is already going in say 20K or something like that, then that would be slightly pre-mature.

Brake pads are generally wear and tear, but weren't those covered under warranty for the 03 and 04 when they were wearing ridiculously quick?

Belts has to be AC and PS/Alt

i think timing chains USUALLY go beyond 150k~200k

Yeah. My head was thinking timing belt and I had timing chain in the back of my head since these engines have a timing chain I believe.

60K - 75K is generally the swap point on timing belts

Not sure how comparable this is, but I had a serpentine belt go out on my Corvette after 6 years and 40k miles. That was not fun. If in doubt I'd replace it.

Warranty and re-call

I have an 03 G, and my passenger side window motor went out and the fuel gauge was not reading the gas right, its the second time they fix those issues once with the previous owner at 20k miles and the second time with me a 70k, they charged me 660 to fix the window motor and also to fix the fuel gauge because it was not reading the gas correctly. Supposubly it was a Good will thing but i think its bs. Anyways, it there again for the fual gauge. Anyone have the same issues?

There are DIY's for both. I THINK that you can get a window motor for about $100 and install it yourself.

The Fuel gauge is a known issue, and can often be fixed just by cleaning the sensors on the fuel tank or something with a cloth.

Go down to Auto Zone and buy yourself a new serpentine belt for $20. Then install it. It will take you 5 minutes if you know what you're doing and 30 min if you don't.

the fuel gauge on early coupes, sedans, and fx's is easy to fix not by cleaning the sensor but by slightly bending them both the sending unit and the flot on the pump assembly.
