Pet peeve
I love my G coupe to death, but if there's one thing that I would put into the "what were they thinking" category above all other issues (like the lack of memory seats, seatbelt chafing my neck, etc.), it would be the intermittent wiper speed choices. The fastest intermittent speed pauses about a third of a second between strokes (nearly useless as it's so close to non-intermittent), and the second fastest pauses about 3 seconds, which is much too slow in light rain. I'm assuming that everyone else's is the same, and there's no way to change the interval presets.
If so, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

Nah, BMW3 is saying that the preset timings of the intermittent wipers are poorly chosen and I agree. The first two settings are mad slow, and then the next two settings are much faster.
But the main problem is vehicle speed. When you're sitting at a light, the rain doesn't hit the windshield so much, but when you're moving fast, all the rain hits the windshield, particularly water sprayed up from the road from the car(s) in front of you. Rain-sensing wipers is the solution to this annoyance of constantly having to adjust wiper speed while driving in the rain, but our G doesn't have it....just something we gotta deal with.

ok...ya'll know the wipers are adjustable INBETWEEN the notches right?...just turn it so it sits inbetween 2 notches

No I sure didn't. I just checked the manuals online for both the '03 and '04 models and there's no mention of this. I'd be delighted to find a setting between fastest and second fastest in particular. Is it your impression that there's just one inbetween speed (per notch pair) or does the control behave more like a continuously variable potentiometer (like a light dimmer) with infinite gradations?

Right-on, fluffydot! When there's enough wetness on the windshield to prevent a streak, just flip the switch up for a swipe whenever necessary--problem solved; if I screw up and get streaks, the windshield washer fluid takes care of that (as long as I'm driving fast enough for the wind to take off the excess and not leave spots behind)... But yes, my wiper speed is fully (smoothly) adjustable--no notches, so unless yours is somehow different, I don't see what the fuss is all about.

What... you guys never heard of RainX? I hardly ever use any intermittent setting, and when I do it's the slowest speed, otherwise it's normal, fast or off, even in the rain. RainX keeps the windshield clear so long as I'm driving above 20mph.
