CLUTCH CHATTER
The car just turned 1200 miles, broken in according to the service manual. The car has always had a considerable amount of clutch chatter, more now than ever. I driven nothing but manual trannys for years, my VW Corrado has the smoothest/non chattering crawl of any car I have driven. I mean you can feather a start as thin as you want with out the slightest vibration. In fact I often feather it just right to use the clutch as a brake on slight uphill stops. I know this isn't healthy for the clutch but non the less I expect the same smoothness from a 40k japanese car. The chatter is the worst between 1-2k rpm in first gear and especially in second when you try doing the rolling stop the car chatters horribly and is a bit embaressing. I did a search and haven't found anything to helpful, that and the search sucks, but thats another thread. I am sure this has been dealt with before, is this the reason why an unusual amount of 6mt are getting new trannys? I think I read in one of these threads that someone here is on there third tranny? I would imagine this is just a means of adjusting/replacing the cluch and or pressure plate. I want to get it taken care of now while the car is relatively new so the dealer has fewer holes to squirm through. Thanks for any help guys.

Re: CLUTCH CHATTER
About a month ago mine started chattering in 1st and 2nd gear. Seems to do it more when the engine is cold, which at that point in time can get to be quite bad. Reminds me exactly of what happened in my old accord and the pressure plate needed to be replaced. I am also on my 2nd tranny I may note. Would love to get more people's input on this...

Re: CLUTCH CHATTER
Ive been noticing the same issue on my coupe. tranny chatters and also at idle has a knocking noise the dealer keeps telling me its normal so i asked him why my other cars dont do that and they have no answere. Think im going to take it in for the pressure plate.
Can I ask why you guys got new tranni's? what was the major issue?
thanks

The deal w/ my tranny was that I could hardly get it into 3rd and 5th...it was almost locking me out of those gears...the week up to before I took it in I was shifting from 1 to 2 to 4 to 6...pretty messed up...now I think my pressure plate is going...

Re: CLUTCH CHATTER
In my search through the various forums, not to mention some 350z forums it seems that this chatter is quite common. I can't imagine that on such new cars that we could have fried and or warped the flywheel. Its driving me crazy and it is embarassing considering it is such a new car. I mean I can literally feel it through the cabin and I have done nothing but baby the thing. lets figure this out guys. BUMP BUMP BUMP

Re: CLUTCH CHATTER
i don't know if this is anythign similar to you guys but i noticed when i'm shifting from first to second, if i'm cruising at a slow pace and i shift over, i press the clutch ALL THE WAY DOWN, and then i move the shifter into second. sometimes i feel a something mechanical trying to keep me out of second. i know it's not grinding because i've heard people grind gears on other cars. but i kind of have to force it in sometimes.
BUT i also noticed when i push my car a little bit, everything shifts well. any clue?

Re: CLUTCH CHATTER
I have the same problem...cold and hot. Dealer told me is just the charatristic of the car....is that right???!?!?! I tried telling them about the rear axle bolt that needs to be tighteened, but when they have my car on the lift, the bolts were tight, not loose. So, I am consufed on what issue we are all having. I've also drove another 6-spd and there was not chattering noise.

Re: CLUTCH CHATTER
i talked to a friend of mine and he said that i just need to wear in my car since its still new. (700 miles) i hope so. more spirited driving shifts so much smoother but when i'm just driving like a lazy man, the 2nd doesn't like me coming from first time to time. we'll see
