gs350 drives alot stronger 65-100mph...why!

So i have a 2003 g35c 5at with ztube+k+n. It pulls strong up until the end of second gear but the third gear feels really really underpowerd. It takes me a good while to up from 65-100 in third gear, and it feels no way as smooth as my other car, the gs350. That car bumps from 65-100 so quietly and effortlessly, i oftentimes speed on accident on the freeways. In the G, it seems like a chore, almost like the car is reluctant to go over 80 miles an hour. Also why is the GS350 so much faster in top end (i've reached 140+mph on I5 easily) but the G35 struggles at anything pass 110? I know G's are capable of speeds of 140mph, but i've never been able to do it on the same stretch of road i do it with the lexus on. What causes such big preformance discrepencies between the two cars, both of which are powered by v6 engines producing similar horse power. Granted the G is older and rated at 280 vs gs350's 306, but the G has slight modding and should be 400lbs lighter.

HOpe someone can answer me =).

slight modding (z-tube and drop-in) does not do jack on the G. What did you gut out to get 400lbs lighter? 2003 G is not 280hp, the coupe is claimed 270hp and actually rwhp guesstimate at 230. The new IS or GS is 306hp with new hp rating and rwhp is already around 260 and probably lighter car too. IS and GS350 are still fresh, mean while your 2003 is aging and not much of good gearing either. If you have heavy wheels, that may slow you down as well. Also if you're somewhere over 180lbs then yeah that slows down the car too. Your car may not having any issue, just your mind playing tricks with you once you drove faster cars LOL......

Well i actually just bought the G, had the GS350 for awhile. I was wondering if it was normal for a G35 to feel sluggish from 65-100 or is there something wrong with mine. And im pretty sure the 2003 is rated at 280. Can anyone explain the new rating system vs the old one and why the Gs350 would have more than a 20hp advantage at the wheels?

I have stock rims on both cars btw.

Oh and about driving faster cars, my dad has an M6 so i don't think driving the gs350 is gonna throw off my butt dyno +)

old rating was rating the engine hp w/o filter and other things (i think a/c or heater is on, I maybe wrong), the new is with a complete engine with air filter.

Did you take the M6 over 100mph or 80-100?

Well the M is in a different league. I rarely rarely drive it but it gets to about 120 before I even hear the engine =)

I'd say its b/c of the gearing on our cars. look into changing the final drive gear.

Horrible gearing for the 5AT and also one less gear. Drive a bone stock 6MT on the freeway and see how different it is.

+1 our 3rd gear in the 6MT is a beast. Not as much as that M6 tho

mayb if u learn how to press the gas pedall att the way, ull get to 100 just as fast as the rest of us. the g has electronic throttle, plus another dissadvantage is that the stock tune on ur ecu is set to only open the throttle 80% when ur pedal is at the floorand only 40% before 40mph. mayb the lexus is different. but those numbers make no sence if u say that ur car is faster before 65mph. im pretty sure if u try racing a g35 6mt in ur lexus ull get smoked from a roll or a stop.

My 6mt Coupe explodes with power in third gear. I red-line 3rd and shift into fourth and it rockets. I've been at 120mph and smooth sailing, but that is the mt. Not sure but I drove an auto coupe and was equally impressed.

well i would think that the third gear in a 5at is equivalent to the forth gear on 6mt so the 6mt should feel more acceleration in third

+1, 3rd gear is a monster, once I get up to 2k RPM it just flys away. Drive a 6MT or turbo your 5AT, but the G is capable of more, boggles my mind
