Stock Satellite Antenna Question
Stock Satellite Antenna Question
I didn't see this question from search, but if it's there I'm sorry for not looking hard enough, anyway.
I bought an 04 a little while back, and the way I got it from the previous owerned, I had satellite radio and GPS. Now I don't use satellite radio but from time to time I do use the GPS. I wanted to take off the antenna, but I had two questions before I tried:
1) Does the GPS use this antenna also, or is the GPS's antenna located somewhere else?
and
2) Can this be done the same way as debadging? Like with fish line and a hairdryer on a hot day?

I'm not to knowledgeable with regards to this, but I hope this kinda helps. I have an 04 with GPS and no Satellite subscription, and I do not see any kind of satellite antenna on my car anywhere. Therefore, I am going to assume that you do not need the Satellite antenna to have GPS function since my GPS works perfectly fine everywhere I go, even underground parking structures.
Hope that helped at least a tid bit.

Thanks Gone, so if I do have a sat stereo button and I was told it is setup for sat radio, just need the unit for the trunk, (or wherever)...if I don't see a sat antenna then its NOT setup for sat?
They said its prewired and has a sat antenna.

thanks for the info. Yeah I wanted to take off the satellite antenna cause I don't use that satellite radio, nor do I have a subscription, kinda just sitting there looking ugly to me, so I wanted to take it off.
If it has a "SAT" button then you are indeed prewired, and just need to install the satellite receiver in the trunk (on the left side under the trim) and hook it up to the existing satellite cable running to the head unit. Then run a satellite antenna to the best location. I actually have my Sirius antenna velcroed to the package shelf between the child latch covers and it works pretty well. I get a few momentary drop outs here and there in heavily wooded suburban areas, but otherwise it's decent reception.
