Manual or Automatic

Hey guys I am about to purchase a g35! so yes I am new to infiniti and g35s..
Well I have 2 choices to get a manual 6spd(w/58kmileage) or an automatic(37kmileage) w/ shift-tronic. My past 3 cars have been all manual, but thinking about going automatic because the g35 is pretty quick already. Anyways I want to avoid as much problem, so if automatic has less problems than a manual then I would pick automatic.. well I just want to know what you guys think and what you guys drive as well!

well, it all depends on you. do you have a lot of stop and go traffic? obviously you've already had 3 manual cars before... so you know how "annoying" it is to drive... get the 6MT you won't regret it, i don't care how people say 6mt gets annoying, the fun factor and feel of manual takes the cake over auto...

I just recently purchased my '06 G35 M6 and I love it. Very fun to drive. However, I test drove a lot of M6's and most seem to have clutch issues (master cylinders leak). I decided to buy one from Carmax and I took it back the next day and told them there was definitely a clutch issue. I knew they wouldn't try to fix it unless I bought the car. So, they took a look and found both the master and slave cylinders were leaking. Fixed for free and they gave me a rental for the few days it was at the Tranny shop. Got it back Friday and it is perfect.

Just be careful buying M6 from a private seller. Usually they are beat up on much, much more than the auto G35's. Same with just about every car though. Most people get a manual so they can drive the car hard.

Take both cars to a mechanic before you buy them if you aren't good at diagnosing issues. It'll be well worth it. Now go buy your car!!!

5 AT now we're even.... And I say this because of the mileage and the
fact that he had intended to go with the AT in the first place. Although MT
is funn'er....!

manuals arent even that much faster than 5at..they even get more power just because its a 6mt..pretty unfair but still the fact remains they arent that much faster.

5at here............the Drive Sport mode really mimics the feel of a manual car (esp. when it starts downshifting)...at least in my opinion.

EDIT: oops, sorry didn't realize it is in the Coupe thread. Hope my input help a bit.

This question seems to come up often, regardless of the car. In general, people that drive a manual prefer a manual and people that drive an auto prefer an auto. It comes down to personal taste and what is important to you.

I drive an auto. Auto all the way!

I went 5AT. Sometimes I regret it, but mostly not. I put 25,000 miles on my G last year (ouch) and a lot of it was spent in some sh!tty bumper to bumper commute traffic every morning. On those days, I was really glad I got the 5AT.

Now I have a different job with different hours and an easier commute. I kinda wish I had gotten the 6MT.

You should drive both. I drove 2 6MTs and was kinda turned off by them. The shifting was notchy and I didn't like how the pedal engaged so high from the floor. You'd get used to it, I'm sure.

BTW - I'd exercise some caution with buying a used 6MT. It is easier to drive an MT wrong, wear out the synchros, wear out the clutch...etc. You then inherit this problem. There are lots of threads of people with messed up trannies that probably inherited the problem from the previous owner. If I was buying a new G37 or 370Z today, I'd get a 6MT.

The 5AT is indestructible! The 6MT is probably more fun, but it is more fragile.
