Hey guys i have a pretty much stock 03 AT G sitting on 20's. i notice i'm doing 0-60 in 7s and my gas mileage is about 250mi from full tank down till the light comes on. so i got two questions
1) how can i improve the performance of my car, i need it a bit faster without breaking the bank or voiding my warranty. my mileage is currently 120k but it;s nicely kept and i'm sure i can get more and better out of it.
2) how can i improve my gas mileage. i heard about one of those liquids from autozone you out in your tank and it's "supposed" to improve performance and gas. is this true? what else can i do?

The first thing to go should be the wheels. 20's can look good, but they are a lot of unsprung weight that really ruins handling, ride, and performance/mileage. If you can I'd find a set of the 19 forged Rays which are lighter than even the 18's. Secondly, with 120k, you should get a tune up if not done yet. Some techron, new plugs, quality oil(5w30 synthetic if in a mild climate), and other maintanance items should be on the list. I said techron because I consider it one of the best complete fuel cleaner additives, though others are fans of lucasoil, or seafoam. Techron has helped some of my vehicles in the past as well. Consider a Z tube and plenum spacer as well. Cheap and easy start mods that give more hp and higher mpg in most cases. Also consider how you drive. I drive mostly highway and easily get 350-400 per 17 gallons, and on longer trips up to 450 miles before the light turns on. With heavy driving in the city, it's hard to get over 300 to a tank. 109k on a coupe 6mt and I do 3-4k a month, have gotten up to 28mpg with a loaded trunk too.

Check your manual for recommended maintanance. Perhaps get a kn/new drop in filter? Air pressure, alignment, full synthetic oil, diff fluid, etc...premium gas? I've read of some people using 87 and experiencing worse gas mpg. Also, could clean the maf and throttle body as well as upper plenum. Not much else you can do really if everything else is in tip top shape. It's the 20's that would be the main issue if you're trying to get better mpg/performance. 6mt would also help

I've done my research and I'm going with plenums, k&n air intake with stillen z tube, new spark plugs and "maybe" new 02 sensors. I wont do all right away, I'm a student and I gotta save up a portion of my paycheck towards these items.

 

Dude, you're talking about miniscule gains in mpg. Go to that other thread I linked you to.

Of course if those are the original plugs, that's gonna make a HUGE difference.

 

Aloha, I just bought a 04 Sedan.. she is stock with some 18s ( came with the car they are a little to flashy for me but rims can wait.) I want to do some minor mods. maybe a intake and exhaust upgrade. Stuck on the intake.. I have heard many things about the z tube and many things about a Injen Sp intake system.... What would be my best bet?? Most bang for my buck??

 

Z-tube with a K&N filter is the best option. There's a lot of heat under the hood and metal absorbs heat which translates to higher intake temperatures. Thick plastic (ztube) does not absorb or transfer heat well which keeps air inside the tube cool.

make sure you give this thread a good read-through. there's more work to the intakes on these cars than just dropping them in and going. this thread blew my mind and rob did an insane job on this write up.
