At last, someone with some brain! thanks, so my next question is what do i do with exhaust now? i've heard a lot of things like x pipe, y pipe, h pipe, hfc, straight piping. it's all so confusing pls break it down and tell me step by step what i need. and i dont want non of that loud exhaust rumble rispiness. cops out here will be all over you like butter and bread

You've heard lots of things because there's lots of options. Intake is simple, exhaust is simple too, just more ways to do it.

Start with checking out the https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...mpilation.html thread and figuring out what combination you like the sound of. When it comes to sound, opinions will be subjective so it truly is a matter of what YOU like.

As far as components, exhaust can be broken down into three major sections: manifolds(headers), catalytic converters(cats), cat back(everything from the cat back to the muffler tips).

Headers are self explanatory.

Cats have 2 basic options, with plenty of choices.
1) hi-flow cats (HFCs) - these are design to retain some emissions benefits but use 200 or 300 cell cores to flow better than stock.
2) Test Pipes - these are strait pipes that eliminate the cats. Here, options vary from Motordyne ART pipes, to resonated, to plain.

Cat back - way to many options to list and break down for you. Side tip since you're confused: X- Y- & H-pipes fall into this category and are used to connect both cats into a single pipe (y-pipe) or bridge both cats for better exhaust gas flow (X & H-pipes). If you get a quality exhaust, these options won't really matter since everything is replaced. The cheap HKS clones usually need a resonated X-pipe added on because they rasp and the H-pipe design is crap. Again, a quality exhaust won't have those problems and sound so yummy.

If I could go back, I would do exhaust only as even with the HFC and defoulers I still have a CEL. They say the cats r the most restrictive points.

Back to the age old question, 3.9 or 4.08 final drive gear for a daily driver 06 5AT coupe. Is the 4.08 to low?

You know higher final drive gears is going to ruin your gas mileage right? Its not worth it imo

You either have a 3.3 or 3.5 currently, going to a 4.08+ would be a significant difference.

06 coupes 5At has the 3.3 the 6MT has the 3.5
I get found the 3.9 gear for $460 new and the 4.08 for 15 more bucks. An yea the 4.08 is gonna kill my gas mileage but then again so does my heavy foot. I'll most likely run the 3.9, there seems to be a lot of people that like it. Just wanted to see if anyone had some hands on insight on the 4.08

The 06 5AT coupes came with a 3.5. And unlike the earlier models your speedometer will be less accurate with the higher the gearing, just FYI. Page 59: http://psedog.com/cars/fsm/g35/coupe/2006/rfd.pdf

I'm trying to work on my exhaust next. I'd like your input. I want something legal and not too loud. Full exhaust system is too expensive so I read on g35driver that HFC or Cat back is the way to go. If so, which gives better yield and what's your experience. Also price would be nice. 03 AT coupe

Modding the G35 Help!

Hey guys I'm new here and I was wondering about modding my G. I have a Short Ram K&N Typhoons series intake but it could also be cold air. Which is better? I'm also ordering a cat back soon, I understand Its all preferences, but which sounds the best and gives it that deep loud sound? I kbow and understand I won't feel a increase in horsepower till I upgrade the ECU. I'm also doing badge swap. Jdm conversion , also I'm looking for 17`s rims. So thanks guys! Here is my G!
