There is no particular reason that a car would run better, or get better milage on premium. Unless you are driving hard, and timing is retarded, the consumption should be the same.

When Nissan puts these letters on the gas door P R E M I U M G A S I think it's a good idea to follow their recommendation. My wife drives a Vette so both of us are on a steady diet of premium Chevron regardless of the cost. I just went
thru my manual and it said nothing about how you drive or simple notion....just PREMIUM FUEL RECOMMENDED. Nissan built this car shouldn't we believe what they say or is that way to logical....

^if its not about being economical, then tell me why you would want to put lower octane when our cars are engineered for premium octane?

So why does it says "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only" instead of "Premium Unleaded Fuel Optional". In the end, it's your car, do whatever you want to it.

I'm not arguing that it says that. I'm arguing that unless you get your cylinder temperatures to silly temperatures, (ie hard driving), you will not get to the point whereby knock, or pre-detonation will occur, thus meaning it's a wasted investment. If you drive hard, that is another matter, but that is the chemical, and physical properties that define it's octane level. The g35 is a 'sporty' car, so people may well get their engine to that temperature, so maybe that's why it is needed. All I am saying is that if you cruise, rather than race everywhere, you don't need premium. By law there has to be a certain level of detergents present in all pump fuel. You are more likely to get issues with contaminated fuel, rather than the fuel itself, if that makes any sense.

You don't read, do you. Look up pre-detonation. It is a physical property, not an economic one.

That's what it boils down to, but the intellectual like to stir up meaningful conversations for logical reasons of discussion and perhaps even learning something. Telling people that they're cheap and to buy a Civic instead does not contribute and only shows immaturity.

Hey thanks for the physics lesson, Einstein!
Lower octane = more likely to pre-detonate and knock

You mentioned that the chances of pre-detonation are decreased if you don't drive hard but if you're gonna drive your car like a Prius, then sell your G and buy a fuccin Prius

and apparently YOU don't read
our cars have a clear reminder every time we fill up "PREMIUM UNLEADED FUEL ONLY"

Well, how can I possibly respond to that post? Jesus. Is this the best you can come up with? Did I say I drive like a granny? Nope? You haven't read a single word I have written. We really do have the intellectual elite in here don't we. It's amazing just how stupid some of you actually seem to want to come across. Incredible. If you can't cope with a simple conversation about octane, don't bother. You'll probably be better off in a thread about Paris Hilton, or whichever rapper has been shot most recently.

If labeling others as intellectually inferior the only way to make you feel smarter, then God save you.

LOL. Lower octane does cause pinging and pre-detonation.

Ask anyone who turbo'd their ride and accidentally put regular fuel on the car. Engine went BOOM.
