I don't think it was a charcoal filter. Doesnt say it on the box. But one side did seem to be coated with a dark grayish powdery substance.

rock auto filter

based on this forum readings, I bought 3 of these filters at $6.11. Price is very good however, none of them where carbon treated. But Im still ok with them. So my car stinks. Everyone is familiar with it by now.

So based on this thread I'm guessing the Fram Freshbreeze from O'Reilly's filter is the best one? I need to change my filter and the last one I used was just an OEM one that I got at the Dealership for about $17.

Filters will DO NOTHING if the AC system isn't cleaned and covered in MOLD.

You need to run the heater on full blast for 10 or so minutes to burn those damn mold. If that doesn't work, you probably need to run it longer or get it professionally cleaned.

Then, to prevent any more mold from growing, you should run the fan for a few minutes after running the AC to get rid of any moisture in the system.

Basically, turn of the AC but let the fan run for at least 5 minutes.

makes since...this is why I always try to turn off my AC a few miles before my destination so mold doesn't set in.

That's exactly what you should be doing if you can remember to. Turn off your A/C (but let the fan run) a couple of miles from your destination to give the A/C unit time to "dry" out. I know it takes some discipline especially during the summer months, but since I have started doing this, I have noticed a considerable decrease in odor coming from the A/C unit when I first turn it on.

Great thread! I ordered some replacements off of ebay for $18 shipped....was 2 pieces so I thought I was getting 2 or they should fit to make 1, right? Wrong....and I was going to take a replacement from him- but now I think I'm going to have to hit up Rockauto and get some Frams...and thanks for the mold info!
