Steering wheel makes a weird noise @ startup? - chinki grL

Hey peeps,

I recently (8/25/09) just purchased a 2006 g35 coupe with 30k miles. The car performed great during the first two days. When it rained on the 3rd day, the steering wheel started making weird noises!?!

The weird thing was, it only made a weird squeaky noise right AFTER startup (first turn only).

After the first turn, it stopped making the noise. It is still doing it!

What is wrong with my car!!?!?! Could it be the steering wheel pump?

Also, something under the hood rattles during acceleration. I think that may be the heat shield, but who knows, it could be something worse O.O

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

I think it's just a loose or over tighten belt. It just needs to be adjusted but many people here have trouble dialing in the right amount of tension, including myself.

I'm not sure about your rattles during acceleration though. It's something that I would need to hear to get a better understanding of it.

Oh lord, thank you for the DIY link, but I think I would be better off paying somebody to do it; looks too complicated lol

^ yeah i get the squeaks once in awhile, usually when I turn the steering wheel while the the A/C on. It's a little embarassing sometimes so i try not to have the A/C on while parallel parking or turning from a standstill.

It's hard to tell if i have the correct tension on my belts since the squeaks happen only in occassions, not to mention that i don't have a gauge or anything to precisely measure belt tensions.
