Knocking sound from the rear
#47
Same here. I definitely know that the sound is coming from the bottom of the car. Because I can hear it better when my windows are down. Hopefully this weekend I can take out the sway bar. I finally got all the tools that will help me take it off.

im gonna put my eggs in the endlink basket. i didnt get the noise until a few days after i installed the hotchkis bars. i replaced the front endlinks but not the rear. i did read that some shock setups the hole is too big for the bolt and the strut actually bangs against the bolt during travel.
i have checked all the bolts and re-torqued them . still getting the noise i doubt one zeal strut took a crap after installing the sways.

So here's an update. I tried once again to take the sway bar off. I had all the right tools, but I didn't have enough room to turn the breaker bar enough to loosen the nut. **** me off. So I went out and bought an electric impact wrench. I will try tomorrow or Saturday.

Finally success! Also I just realized it has been 1 year since I started this thread. The nut was seized like a ****. My impact wrench can do 450 ft. lbs of torque but it still wouldn't budge. I then tried the passenger side and it came off quick. So I had some hope. I then tried again for the driver side, and still no go. I decide to do it by hand and use a ratchet to turn it (since the breaker bar was too long to turn). I applied a lot of force and was able to turn it.
I finally got the sway bar out. I then drove around for sometime and I didn't hear any knocking! I could always hear it when I pulled in/out of my driveway.
To other people who are having this problem, try taking the sway bar out. Hopefully your swaybar nuts aren't seized like mine so it should be a quick job for you.
So does this mean that I need to get new endlinks?

I began hearing this sound a couple of months ago. It would happen at random times with random space between days although now it seems more like once or twice during each drive. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with performance.
I'm interested to see what the end diagnosis might be.

I have a 2004 G35 coupe and I was experiencing the same problem with mine... It would happen at random intervals and only noticeable at slow speeds. Sounded like metal clanking.
After doing a lot of trouble shooting we found that the TPMS in the passenger rear tire had somehow come off the rim and was rolling around in the tire causing the noise. I cant speak for everyone but this was the cause of the sound that was in my car. Hope this helps!

It's the right side panel in my trunk, one of the mounting feet no longer has the isolating "foam thingy" on it and it seems to be the source of the sound. there is no sound with my panels removed. There is a very audible difference with the panel in place. I know how to provoke the noise (exactly what road to drive on and the speed to drive over it) and I'm much happier now that I know my noise is not suspension related
....Wow, it came back, so I guess I'll be checking/replacing my endlinks also. I was so damn certain about the source of the sound, especially after it went away.
