LMAO.. Don't bother with the 3.9 gears if you're getting a vortech.. You'll need longer gears to stay in the powerband for longer.
I love E46 M3's. Any properly modified one [exterior/performance wise] makes my head snap
That being said, you have tastefully modified your G35.
Toss a coin flip, and decide
Between supercharging my G and getting an E46 M3, I would supercharge mine, considering how much work I have already done to it.

Sure the BMW is nice but repair costs are nuts and their reliability is suspect. G's are nicer looking and you'll get more compliments in a G. Who cares about speed as you never get an opportunity to use it anyways.....unless you live in Germany and if you live there, get a M5.

I'd go M given the chance, no questions asked. Most of my family has at least 1 BMW, and there's 2 M models in my family. They are amazingly nice cars. A bit expensive to maintain, but the quality is incredible. I'd love to get ahold of an 07-08 Z4 M Coupe

tragedy, you summed it up for me, exactly my plans for my car, keep it NA (stock is even fine for me) and just tune the suspension for good street grip. I just doubt I'll ever race it so I'll never bother with coilovers...bushings are my next suspension mods

the bmw's start having problems about 5 years .
keep the G and supercharge ;] or 335 twin turbo'd with warranty.

Going FI reliably on a G35 is going to be a huge money sink, these cars were not meant for boost and you're going to have to replace or upgrade basically everything eventually. Don't listen to people that say you can slap on a turbo and call it a day; they are running on borrowed time as far as I'm concerned and to do it right you have to spend way more than I'm personally willing to fork over. YMMV.
M3's are expensive to maintain and have a ton of little problems, everybody I know with a BMW loves it until it gets to be about 5 years old. Then the headaches start coming. If you can find an M3 that's been garage queen'd its whole life, you may be fine.
Personally, I'd keep the G35 and if the interior bothers you that much (don't blame you, 03-04 interiors look like a Kia) just pay to get it completely redone. Also I'd keep the engine NA and tighten up the suspension with quality coilovers, high end performance tires, various braces, strut bars, etc. It's always fun to drive a slow car fast than the other way around.
I like this option, that is why I will build my car piece by piece. If I am happy with NA mods and suspension then I will stop there and just save money for the next car and enjoy this one. For some reason I don't think I will be happy but it is sometimes better to just save for a faster car than try to make the slow car faster. I just finished paying off my car and I would like to save money buy a house etc.. before spending money on another car note. For all of those who keep saying twin turbo my car ..it will never happen. Before I spend 15 + k on a car that I am not completely in love with and then still have to deal with reliability issues I will save that money sell my car for 15k and pick up a 996tt for 35-38k and be allot happier with my money spent.Originally Posted by tragedycat

To each their own but I know allot of people that go extreme with cars that they are not in love with only to have their car always in the shop and not being that happy in the end. Hopefully I will be happy with just Na mods or a mild supercharger setup. I cant totally rule out the M over the supercharged G using the same logic with the cost of the turbo G vs the 996tt for the 6-7 k spent on supercharging I can sell my car for 14-15k and pick up a 2005 M for around 20k with no note. Once again same result with better reliability (and a better interior) lol. I think I will stay Na with tasteful mods until I am ready to move to the next car thanks tragedycat. That was good advice, much appreciated

If you would like to go BMW. You can get an M1 for a good price. They have received rave reviews for the hp to price ratio. It would probably cost you the same as a 2 to 3 year old M3. Smaller but has the same look. German vs Japanese...I just had my routine maintenance on my Mercedes Benz (want the records verified by MB) paid $400.00 for basically an oil change Mobile ! (comes in all new MBs) and all the look see's/check's).

If you're looking for something fast AND reliable....I wouldn't bother with either of your two considerations.
