REV light in dash.
REV light in dash.
I apologize if this topic has been previously covered, I searched and couldn't find it.
I have: '05 6MT Coupe with 70k miles. Recently bought. (Love it.)
In the center of the dash there is an indicator light that says "REV".
The light is always on, from the second I start the car to the time I turn it off.
I asked a Nissan Mechanic what it meant and he said it was because I was shifting too late, well if that is true, then the sensor must be broken...
Any help/advice/ideas would be appreciated.
P.S. I just got this car about a month ago, drove it for the first time last week (cause im at school) and couldn't be happier. Also, I got the bug bad. Already spent $2k on parts.

read the owners manual. You need to set the rpm you want to shift at and then a red light will blink underneath it when you get close to that rpm. If you don't set it it defaults to 8k so will always be on.

that mechanic is high on something... that light is not a shift indicator of any sort
if your car was an automatic, the gear shift position would be indicated in that spot. on the manuals, however, I'm pretty sure they just put that there to eliminate a big blank space. The only significance of "rev" is that your engine is a "rev-up" engine. It's the engine that 05+ 6MTs all have. It's slightly different than the automatic engines (a few more HP, a little less torque)
edit: the shift indicator is right below the "rev" and it's a red light that flashes and then stays on solid.... you can set the RPM at which it comes on by pressing the stick to toggle between your tripometers A and B, and then after trip B, you'll see a 4 digit number... this is the RPM that you can adjust for the light

It would be nice to turn it off completely.

I'm TRIPPIN.. The REV light is always on.
I was confused because I also have a RAS light.
The RAS light goes on then turns off. Not the REV light. There is a small box under the rev light. That little box lights up when you're suppose to shift.

how so? all of that information is correct
they put it there so you can set it to whatever you want and itll go off accordingly, i have mine set to 5 hundo before redline, jus so when im gunning it, it goes off, and i know to shift, toggle over to the 4 digit number, first will come 2 odometer readings and then the redline that you want to set it to, hold down the toggle **** until it starts blinking, once its blinking toggle over to desired rpm, THEN LET IT STOP BLINKING ON ITS OWN, once it stops blinking, its officially set, then toggle out to the other odometer readings, i like to keep one for each gas tank, and i reset the other everytime i change my oil, good luck...
have mine set to 6800, its a perfect shift for me all the time.
fot those who want it off.. set it to the highest rpm setting that way you will never have it flashing on you, unless you like to rev over redline

agreed, although having REV lit up in amber is annoying...
