5th gear grind, what to do to soften it up? Dealer fix?

I did some light searching, and know this is pretty common. I have a 04' bought it a year ago, and it has a 5th gear grind going into 5th when its not warm. She has 71k on the clock, but has been doing this for pretty much since i got her at 64k.

I read that there was a dealerfix for this? Do you need to still be under warrenty? Am i too late? Its almost 2010 lol

And also, if there isnt, has anyone tried GM Synchromesh (friction modified) in their tranny? There were tons of great reviews about it phasing out gear grinds in higher up mileage trannies on hondas.

Its sad that i have to worry about this now at only 70k lol.

Anyone have any advice or any MTF that will make the grind disappear completely?

Its like Nails on a chaulkboard everytime it grinds.... makes my skin crawl.

Try synthetic tranny fluid first, if that fails you might be SOL and in for a bigger fix.

Find a Red Line dealer in your area and buy the correct weight Red Line synthetic trans fluid and fill 'er up. That should make those syncros get in line as Nissan intended....Good Luck and let us know how well this works for ya.

Unfortunately there is really no inexpensive fix for a bad synchro.

5th gear means bad syncro and a new tranny will be needed. if you have warranty it if not, just do easy shifts to 5th to prevent grinding.

mine was doing the same around 53k miles. dealer warranty is what i got
