intake breather tube -help

hey guys, on my intake there is a breather tube that connects to the intake tube. What does this do? is it attached to the vacuum system? emissions system?

is it bad if it is not connected?

reason why i ask is that i came around a Z tube from a smashed up Z, the tube is fine except for the breather tube that has been snapped off. can i get a little filter for the breather line or should i try to fix the ztube

Thanks

It connects to the valve cover and acts as breather/vent.

If you just put a filter on the end of the hose, there will no longer be a vacuum source.
I am not sure what the result would be.

the car will not idle smoothly and if you drive very hard, some oil may mist up all over your engine bay. i would try to get that fixed and the tube re-attached to the intake pipe.

putting a small filter on it should be fine, all the oil will be soaked in by the mini filter.

its just a vaccum hose line that will spill out remaining oil, and flows down into your oem box. no oem box, it will flow down to your filter, but rarely any oil flows out.

how the oil gets out... I dont know the technical reasoning behind it, but Its just oil that escaped.

If you still have the piece that broke off just glue it back on. (Gorilla glue) You need to have that vacuum line attached, other wise your car will run like....well you know! If it can't be glued on just buy another z-tube. I never recommend using eBay but that's probably the cheapest place to find one....

^ actually i tried gluing that piece back on, but when i did do that it would snap right off again. Ive tried many different glue, but none of them work. In in the end i went with a stillen z-tube which seems like it was built stronger too. That hose that connects to the tube is pretty stubborn doesnt have too much flexibility to it.
