Luxury is automatic, there is no luxury in driving stick, people who like luxury cars don't like doing work lol

And G2flip4; have you driven a 5at G/Z? You're aware that the car will not shift unless you make it shift? It will bounce off the rev limiter just like a 6mt car. Not to say it's the same, but it's not like most tiptronic cars.
Correct me if im wrong but the newer V36 sedans shift automatically when you hit redline in tiptronic mode. I had the 5AT Loaner for a few days and thought it was funny how they shifted at redline. But your right about the First Gen G/Z's they dont shift at all, they just bounce at redline.

just to play devils advocate....

lets look at who usually drives those cars

Bentley: the owner's personal driver
Mercedes: old people with bad hips
Rolls Royce: the owner's personal driver

none of the above are gonna want a stick, TRUE

buuuut... people like us like a semi-luxurious car that can still be fun as he1l

so for me.... 6MT FTMFW

i take it as more higher end cars today are auto or with paddle shifters, either way the lack of a physical stick is to make them more marketable, in my opinion selling out, but business is business

Ive driven a few... to me its not the even close to the same. Hence why I prefer manuals.

I dont know why people cant shift their car into neutral while sitting in traffic, most the time you dont even have to have any feet on the pedals unless youre on an incline. Stop and go driving is life, I guess Id rather rip thru the gears instead of having the convenience of using only 1 foot to drive....

The only people complaining about driving "mt's in traffic" are people with auto. I have yet to see one thread about "mt" drivers wanting to go auto. And most of them can't drive manual cars.

I get stuck in stop and go traffic all the time. I don't see what the problem is? I took a 3hr trip to Pechanga Casino on a thanksgiving weekend, the traffic was bad.

It's the same as driving an auto in stop and go. You really don't even have to think about it. The only difference is, we use the clutch pedal more and auto guys use the brakes more.

When I couldn't drive an mt, I use to have that "traffic" excuse. Then, when I actually learned to how drive one. That excuse went away.

I mean, who's complaining about traffic? Is it ONLY the manual drivers?

For the "luxury" excuse, if that is so, why are so many "auto" drivers here trying to increase their HP? Ripping out their "luxury" items to reduce weight?

Set your priorities straight and it should be a fairly simple choice.

Do you prefer convenience and comfort? Or are you performance oriented, seeking a more thrilling drive?

There is no right or wrong answer. It's all subjective.

AT is "luxury". If you compare cars (same base models), AT cars usually cost more.

And, all over the world, the majority of cars available are MT cars. Which is why it's called "standard transmission"..

I believe America is the only country with the majority of cars being AT. If you google it, you read about people calling us lazy and we can't do two things at once and other crap like that. That's why we drive automatics. lol

I personally think that the complaints about driving a manual as being a pain the butt to be sissy whining unless you have some kind of permanent handicap like missing a leg. I used to live in Los Angeles and commuted to Glendale (think the 10, 405 and 101) in my STi which has a much stiffer clutch than the G35 and it was not an issue. My 56 year old dad commutes 100 miles round trip each day from Ventura county to LAX in a manual tC.

Now there's absolutely nothing wrong with admitting that you just don't feel like driving a manual or don't know how to drive a manual and don't want to learn. There are times when it's nice to drive my wife's AT G35 because I just want to cruise and not think about it or that time when I sprained my ankle.

Get what you think will suit your preferences the most. Do you think you'll just be commuting or do you want to be able to actually DRIVE spiritedly from time to time? Just don't let the worries about it being a "pain in traffic" be a deciding factor because it really is not that bad. And don't think for a second that the manual mode in the 5AT is even close to a real manual. It's absolutely worthless.

Well I absolutely loved my manual Civic SI, my Acura Integra Type R and every previous manual car I've owned (I've had 31 cars, I'm old). And I used to have an Acura CL Type S with an auto that I didn't enjoy because it was SO boring to drive. That's what drew me to the G35, a car that looked so very good, had ok power, and was available with RWD and a Manual trans.

However, I was sad to discover that manual G35s shift horrible! The clutch feel/take up is terrible and feels like driving a dump truck. Takes all the fun out of it. I've had a '70 Chevelle SS that shifted better than a G. So I chose the AT, because I still loved how the G looked so much. These aren't pure sports cars anyway, just sporty/lux coupes. So some of us with the "skill" chose AT because it just fits this car better. For those that want a sports car, they should have bought the Z.

I agree, which is why I wanted a 5at when I was looking for my G. I knew in the long run I'd have a Z which NEEDED to be stick. Can't understand why they even made the Z in an automatic.

I'm looking for a semi-comfortable drive but wanna have fun.

Too all the guys that were in my position, do you think it gets annoying going to through gears from stoplight to stoplight?
I know there are tons of people with autos that which they has manual.

But is there any of you 6mt guys that daily drive their G and wish they had autos.

i learned to drive stick on hills and speed bumps in a renault clio, it was not easy i had to back up out of dead end streets at tops of hills in a neighborhood, but since i live in miami itll be easier to drive a MT cause its all flat
