Looking to purchase soon. I want your input.

Hello everyone. I'm somewhat new here, been lurking around for about a month doing my research. I've been driving my company 05' Toyota Echo for about 16 months and I'm ready to get into a G35 that I can drive to school twice a week and take it out on the weekends. Its getting down to it and I may be purchasing within the next 2 weeks. I have a couple candidates that I'm thinking about buying.

What I'm looking for is an 06-07 G35 Coupe. Really wanting a black on black with everything, but I might settle on a DG on black. I'm fine without nav, since I'll most likely be going with a double din in the future. I'm a first time car buyer so any advice is appreciated. There are no canidates around my area so the closest ones I can find are about 250+ miles away. So before I start negotiating or even contemplating on making a drive, I wanted some input. Here's what I've got so far. School me.

First Choice

Second Choice

Third Choice

I'd personally say that all of them look like there almost too good of deals to be true....

I bought my 05, thats right 05....for 19,500 US with less then 30K miles in perfect condition, but from a private seller, and that was fully loaded.

Somehow you have found the select few dealers advertising really low prices, like I was also looking for....whenever I called those dealers, they would always say that reflects a $2000 trade in, or you have to finance through us, and the fee is 1000 bucks btw. Anyways, I thought I was getting a good deal, but lets be honest, its rare that you come across a super good deal from a dealer, I mean, there not dumb***es, they sell cars for profit, and most guys on here will tell you that an 07 will sell for more then 21K from a dealer forsure. I don't think most guys on here with an 07 would even sell it to you for that price as a private seller, and dealers need a minimum mark up of $2K on used cars for the most part.

G35's don't sell at low prices, everyone would own one if they were the same price as a civic am I right? Yeah, sure you might get a good deal everyonce and a while, but the other deals are all horrible and you get screwed with a POS that breaks down shortly after the warranty or during the warranty and INFINITI screws you.

Look for a nice, 1 owner vehicle with lower miles such as 45K and less with all of the options you want. Look at the KBB value....theres a small chance your are going to get more then 1.5K off of that price, if you get more then 2K off that price ask yourself why? are they desperate, or is this car really not worth what the average car is?

Good luck, and I'd go with the 06 since its only an 06, and its from a nissan dealer. The other deals sound to good to be true...07 is too new to be selling for a similar price I bought my 05 for in November of last year.

To be honest these are the average prices of the cars that I've found in my area. Anything that's listed for more than about 22.5k has quite a few less miles than the ones I selected. But it is possible there are some stipulations to those prices, since I haven't called the dealer yet.

^^^ that sounds about right, and thats after talking down probably 500-1000 bucks i would assume. Mines got about 20K less miles...but i paid 1K more then you, and was looking across all of USA.

I'll tell you something, I looked at G35 prices across the entire USA, I'm from Canada, and bought my car in Colorado. Cars are generally cheaper and in better condition in the states so I looked down there, I decided I would pretty much go to any state or area to pick up a car, seeing as a plane ticket is generally pretty much the same price anyways....I think I got one of the better deals, and like I said, that was me deciding from the entire USA, could I have gotten a better deal? forsure, but I think I got a good one, and definetly would have bought a 06 or 07 if the prices are like that, I searched for 6 months before landing on mine in November of last year.

But, if the cars check out, then maybe car prices have realy plumeted in the past 4 months. cause back then, it was tough to even find an 06 for the price you are looking at, especially from a dealer, only everyonce and a while would one pop up, but the price would sometimes be changed, or a $1000 down payment and financing through there company required would appear on the comments.

Price a little high with those miles to me. Black or DG is good. You aren't missing out since the nav is horrible.

Actually, those prices are not that far off. I searched Chicagoland area, and where I'm at, I can get a couple at Carmax for $21K. I consider Carmax to be overpriced, so it's reasonable to expect to pay $20K for an 07 coupe. KBB values are also inflated.

Example: 2 years ago, my wife and I bought an '05 Pathfinder LE (fully loaded) for $18K, with 18K miles. There were no strings attached, we got very good financing with a very good rate. KBB value was $24K, and other dealers were selling the same model for $20K-22K. We've been very pleased with it, and there was nothing wrong with it.

I bought my '04 G35 in 2006, when it was 2 years old, for $18K and have been pleased with it. It also was the lowest priced G I could find at the time, as the rest were $20K and up. You gotta find the best deals, check out the car, then determine for yourself if it's legit or too good to be true....

Cars are depreciating like crazy, so great deals can be had on used cars. 6MT's can be had for less than 5AT's, because manual trannies are in less demand and sit on dealer lots longer. My '04 6MT, fully loaded minus nav, can be had now for less than $10K. That's why I just keep it; not worth it to get rid of it.

Actually didnt do any talking down. I told him I wouldnt buy the car unless he cut me a check for $4000 to pay for coilovers and wheels/tires. He really wanted my F150 on trade in. But Ive been buying vehicles from him since 2000. So he treats me pretty good when I keep coming back.

Here is a list of things I like to do when I take a look at online cars, specifically because when you go to see the car its a sensory overload and you sometimes forget just exactly what you need to be checking. Besides the obvious stuff like the tires, paint, seating etc. I like to check out the floormats, and the peddles (often times, if the guy has beaten the **** out of his car, you can tell by looking at/under the floormats and at the peddles. If the peddles look real worn out but the car has only 30k miles then you can be suspicious. Goodluck, if you want Black on black i recommended waiting for it, it took me 4 months to find the perfect one but i got it and i love my car.
