Air Conditioner

Recently my 03 coupe started to have a musty smell in the morning when the a/c is on. It clears out in about 30 seconds. Dealer said they sometimes service the a/c with an scented cleaner. The car is only 9 mos old. Anyone else come accross this? Thanks.

Re: Air Conditioner

When you don't turn AC compressor OFF 30-60 seconds before you turn car off...........condensed water sits in/on evaporator coils and fungus/bacteria build up while car is off.

Eventually [multiyears] this crud builds up and the evap coils will need cleaning. They make a special foam bactericide for this purpose or BG has a spray version that works if applied frequently. Operator issue usually. Varies by location and air quality and how level the car is parked [evap box drain position].

Been common since 1955 when AC was applied to cars.

How many times have you changed your in cabin filter. Examine the old one and you will see.

I'm in Hawaii. I only had my G for about 2 1/2 months and the A/C has that smell... But yeah, it goes away... So i don't pay to much attention to it...

Re: Air Conditioner

As mentioned earlier, turning the AC off 60 to 90 seconds before turning the engine off with the fan on high works. Also run your AC on vent and not on recirculate, this will help also.

Re: Air Conditioner

I've also noticed this, it doesnt have anything to do with your filter being clean/dirty, it has to do with the AC coils and the moisture and the mustiness of it.... (at least thats what i've read)

I've fixed my situation by installing one of Gordgee's Charcoal/HEPA interior air filters, it costs only a few bucks more than the stock crappy paper filter but has gotten rid of 95% of the smells (by charcoal filtration)

Try it out, you'll be quite impressed

Re: Air Conditioner

"stinks like a wet dog" because a lot of time it is you should see all the evil things that are clogging up the evaporator coils after a few years...........the filters seem to have helped some but they are not perfect because to be so would restrict the amount of air flow.

Study the old filter to get a handle on how frequently you should changes yours based on your enviroment!
