hey guys

so i've recently noticed something weird with my car. whenever i slow down (either by breaking or releasing the gas pedal) and then accelerate, my car "jerks" forward and accelerates very quickly. this happens even when im barely touching the gas. it only happens when the car is around 1k rpm. i drive a 2006 AT. i brought it to the dealership and their mechanic told me that this is normal. he said that it's because at 1k rpm im between 1st and 2nd gear and when i accelerate it pushes me into 2nd. they hooked my car up to their computers and said that there were no error codes or anything and that i shouldn't be worried. i just wanted to verify what they told me with you guys. it seems weird that an auto "jerks" forward aggressively when accelerating even if it is going from 1st to 2nd gear. when i drive normally and dont slow down going from 1st to 2nd there are no issues. thanks in advance for your help.

Mine does this too, i think it's normal. When you're slowing down, sometimes the 5at downshifts all the way to 1st, but if you never stop, it will jerk when you get back on the gas as the 1st gear is the shortest gear. You get a nice smooth acceleration when it stays in 2nd. You can reproduce the results quite easily if you use the manumatic mode on an empty street and play around with it. I did, and these are the conclusions I came to.

Yeah miltoda is correct, its because the auto trans is trying to get into second as quickly as possible to be able to accelerate like the user(you) wants. I was riding with the manumatic mode engaged one time and it did this to me when I downshifted from 2nd into 1st around 10mph, 1500-1700 rpm. I realized quickly, don't want to ruin my trans, that you have to accelerate slowly when the AT drops all the way to 1st.

glad to hear it's not just my car and this really is normal. i'll definitely have to be careful to accelerate slowly when getting out of 1st. thanks for all the help everyone.
