I noticed that the stock intake tube (Z-Tube) has a flat resonator on top and a long resonator on the bottom. Other than that, it is a straight tube. I sealed the two holes to the resonators with duct tape. I know this is not recommended, but I can't afford a real Z-tube. This seems to be a good alternative. I know after time the tape will come off. Maybe I can afford a Z-tube by then. Any one else try to modify the original intake tube?

 

The z-tube doesn't do much of anything in terms of performance, it is mostly for sound, and the sake of modding.

I'm guessing the people on the forum will tell you that "If you can afford to drive an Infiniti g35, you can afford to buy proper parts".

Taping the stock tube, or going out of your way to mod it seems like a waste of time and/or money.

 

yea umm I can't afford a rear diffuser so I will use black duct tape instead.

 

 

Seriously? If you can't afford a used z-tube, which is one of the cheapest mods for our cars, i wouldn't even start modding if I were you.

Be careful that when it does eventually come off, that it doesn't get sucked in.

when you install your plenum spacer you can pick out the tape that will be floating around.

If you assume the duct tape isn't recommended why would you do it? This is a perfect example of the high mileage G35's getting so cheap anyone can afford one. What's next, scouring the wrecking yards for used tires?

Gary C is right, these cars have jumped the gun. I don't know why I bought another one when my athens blue got wrecked last november. Oh well!

 

Amen to that my brother. Guess we will also see threads about how expensive gas is nowadays. Wait until they have to replace any shocks, brakes, do any kind of maintenance.
