Castrol Syntec vs Mobil1

This is first time I'm gonna change oil on my G and I just picked up 6L of 5W30 Castrol Syntec Motor Oil at costco on sale for $32+tax. Does anyone advise to return it and buy Mobil 1 ? Castrol Syntec Motor Oil was manufactured in USA and I read somewhere that it's not true synthetic oil. I'm planning to buy Mobil1 or K&N filter.
Thanks

There are already MULTIPLE threads on Castrol Syntec vs Mobil 1 oil. Just search for "Castrol" or "Mobil 1" and you'll see them.

Yes, Syntec 5W-30 is not a "true" Synthetic but neither is M1 5W-30. Search around tons of info.

They are still good but one is better then the other.

I run Syntec.

Welcome to Driver Krypton! =o)

Krypton, in the real world it doesn't really matter which synthetic you use as long as you use quality filters and change it frequently. I would however stick with one brand and Mobil 1 is better than most....

^ I aggree with Gary. The brand doesnt matter as much as the frequency of your oilchange. Its better to change your oil more frequent. I feel synthetic oil quality is pretty much similar between the different brands; Mobile1, Castro, Pennzoil, Amsoil, etc.

That's correct Henry, it just depends how deep your pockets are!

First oil change used Castrol Syntec and second one used Mobil 1 synthetic. Both are good oils, but niether provided anything over the other so it doesn't matter as long as you use a quality filter and change it when you are suppose to.

I used the infamous German Castrol and Purlator PureOne filter. 5 quarts and filter for $27.99. See picture below. Oil test have shown German Castrol to be far superior in oil test than the competitors showing less wear. Either way, as long as you change it regularly, you should be fine.

^Fram FTL. I don't blame you for not using it. As soon as it goes back on sale, I'll stock up. At least Pep Boys gives you a quality filter.
