welcome
i've been told cold air intakes rob you from some hp cause of the heat it soaks from your engine. and that you're better off with replacing your oem tube with a z-tube and just drop in a k&n filter in your stock box. hope that helps

correct
if you get a chance to look at your stock g35 intake it'll run downwards to make the g35 more "luxuriously silent" and therefore runs air up and down causing airflow to travel more distance, while the ztube is just a straight tube into your..throttle body? the engine thingy lol iono i learned most of this from reading all the forums and members i've encountered fixing up my car on here, maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in

ok and then get the k&n filter and the motordyne 5/16 spacer? is that a good start and what would that do for my car?

Get the Z-tube and the 5/16 spacer. The tube's are often sold for about $60 in the marketplace on my350z.com. Unless you want something polished, the Z-tube is the way to go. As for the K&N, I had it and prefer the OEM paper elements; easy and quick change and relatively cheap if bought through vendors.

yeah thats a great start, probably on top of everyones first mods to do.
the spacer will add horsepower as proven on dynos.
there's lots of information here already on these subjects. You'd get a lot more information and if you searched for your answers on here. Plus you run into a lot more cool info along your way. So type in Motordyne Plenum Spacer into the search and you'll find all your answers
hope that helps, sooner or later you'll be bitten by the mod bug :P goodluck!

I have done hours of searching on here and the opinions only confuse me even more. My car is still stock and I have had it for 3 months. I am still reading these posts because of possible new info. I didn't know the plastic z tubes are better than the metal ones..
