question about exhaust, stock w/HFC or....

i'm looking for a deep mean soud like flowmaster or borla although HKS high flow TT catback sounds and looks good. i heard today that keeping the stock exhaust and just getting HFC's would give a growl and add performance pluss alot cheaper also thinking of headers and underdriven pully kit to give low end speed. so far i only have plenum and CAI. if i get the exhaust and pulley kit should i get dyno and tune? thanks... have more questions but thats good for now lol

Yes, adding HFCs to your stock exhaust will give it a nice growl and add some performance. Headers will actually hurt you in the low end, and their cost to performance ratio isn't worth it. I've read a lot of mixed reviews about pulley kits, so make sure you did your research on them. If I were you, I'd just get ART pipes and call it a day, you'll get the sound, and low end torque that you want.

Get a tune after you have all your intake/exhaust mods done.

HFC's are the way to go since that's where most of the restriction is in the OE exhaust system....and you'll be legal! If in the future you're considering a aftermarket exhaust only buy a cat-back which are true dual systems. Y-pipe systems are a waste of your $$ for sound & HP gains. Forget the Borla system HKS and MotorDyne are much better choices!

HFC's aren't legal in CA. They may pass the sniffer, but fail the visual if they check.

Technically, Motordyne isn't a "true" dual system. Y-pipe systems are NOT a waste. Motordyne has the XYZ pipe which is the best y-pipe on the market with PROVEN gains paired with a free flowing exhaust. The key for maximum performance gains is the actual placement of the merge in the y-pipe. Still waiting to see an independent dyno of the HKS exhaust. A 3" single exhaust can still produce gains as much as a true dual plus the added benefit of weight savings. The best way run a HFC is with the Motordyne ART test pipes, Motordyne XYZ y-pipe with HFC (interchangeable) paired to a free flowing exhaust. There are no scavenging effects after the y-pipe. You get the performance of test pipes and reduce gas smells with the HFC but the whole set-up is down right costly.

Marketplace or google.
I don't think HFC's have any effect on MPG

^A test pipe is simply a straight/hollow pipe. HFC's have catalytic converters in them.

As far as tp>hfc i think they are a lot louder, and will not pass any states emissions tests but i could be completely wrong. Id say go with FI high flow cats they have a real mean low growl.
