Need Help Finding/Deciding On An Oil Catch Can
so .. I have an 06 coupe .. I want to add an oil catch can on my PCV .. I have been searching and scouring through the internet to figure out which is best for me but none of my questions were fully answered .. all I have found is that I should stay away from Weapon R .. I found a DIY that used a catch can from a corvette website and even has a decent place to mount it but it doesn't have a level monitor (unless I add it on my own) .. I really like the square NRG because my hood dampers are NRG and I'm OCD about things like that .. also, the NRG comes with mounting bracket and level monitor .. the issues I have with this can is that it doesn't seem to have anything INSIDE the can like chambers or mesh to stop oil from splashing back up and possibly back into the outlet .. besides the NRG and that vette can, I have been looking at: Megan Racing, Arc (although it's more than I'd like to pay), Cusco, Greddy and Mishimoto .. any inside on which can works best for our cars would be great .. I don't want this to be a hassle filled with custom mounts and headaches lol .. if anyone has pictures of these cans installed with recommended mounting spots or HOW you custom mounted I'd appreciate it a LOT or if you know of a better brand/can that I haven't listed that is decently easy to mount, has chambers/baffles, a level monitor and can be emptied I'll take any suggestions .. thanks again

It's difficult to fit a big azz catch can under your hood when every thing is pretty much OE. You needn't worry about oil "splashing" that doesn't happen! Simple solution, go to Home Depot and pick up one of their compressor catch cans found in the tool section and you'll need a couple feet of hose. This is hardly noticeable and might cost you a total of $12, no bracket needed either. It's clear so you can see what oil it's collecting and you might need to empty it every 3rd or 4th oil change, that's how little catch cans collect.

I have the NRG can and have it as much for looks as for function. I don't know if it collects enough oil to cut down on your pinging but it definitely collects oil. Here's a pic of where it's mounted:

Oil catch cans are needed in our cars but I seriously doubt the ping you're experiencing has anything to do with a little blow by in your plenum. Sounds like your timing is way off, try doing a ECU reset. (search) If that doesn't work take it back to the dealership and have them check the ping issue....ping isn't a good sound.

and to GaryC .. I remember when I first got the car, I took it to the dealer the first weekend complaining about this ping .. they asked about gas, I set them straight .. they than charged me for some "special" treatment that removes carbon buildup .. I thought that would do the trick but ping was still there .. they then reset the ECU and "other factory settings" according to them but the ping remained .. I then ended up getting a new engine from the OC issue and only started to hear the ping after the break it was completely down and I was able to put the car under load .. I've narrowed the ping to between 2-3K rpm and oNLY when the car is either warmed up and/or HOT (worse on super hot days) .. I know there are a LOT of people on this forum with the same issue due to the number of threads and even the owner's manual mentions some pinging being acceptable for whatever bs reason they state .. If I turn this car on, I can literally floor it for a good 10-15 mins anywhere I want and get NO pinging .. once it gets some heat soak and really heats up, it's pinging under load for the rest of the day .. colder plugs, as I've said, did nothing .. I know it's temperature related because it NEVER happens in the morning or even when the car is sitting for a long time so i'm at a loss .. I'm hoping the oil in the lower collector is somehow lowering the octane in the gas enough to the point that it's pinging .. I don't know much about fixing engines so it's this forum or a liar dealer lol .. any ideas ?? thanks in advance

Corvette Oil Catch Can perfect fit. Downside is there are no oil level indicator and it cost over $100. But it's a no hassle oil can. Comes with a bracket that fits perfectly too.
Here is my mini oil catch can. (2.5 x 5") I will have this 'custom mounted' onto the G35 power steering fluid tank bracket. I'll update with pics when I have this done. Been too lazy. I will have a machine shop do this.

quick question for anyone that has installed a catch can .. on the my350z DIY, the OP says .
"Next, remove the single screw on the radiator overflow tank and pull it up and forward so you can get to the ground strap - you don’t need to disconnect the hose to the radiator. The ground strap is attached to the timing cover at two places with one bolt each, and to the passenger side body, underneath the overflow tank, with two bolts through a single lug. The second lug on the timing cover is very hard to see, but you can follow the strap over from the other end, and it’s pretty easy to unbolt. Slide the two clamps off, and remove the PCV hose that connects the plenum to the PCV on the valve cover"
why would I have to disconnect ground straps and such if I'll I'm doing is taking a hose off and connecting the catch can .. is this all necessary or can I just mount the can, remove the existing hose, put the newly sized 3/8 hose and connect it all up?? any help would be great .. thanks
