What do you guys think is fair?

I want to trade my ivory pearl 2004 g35x with 64000 miles on it for a 2005 black coupe with 72,000 miles. What would be a fair amount of money to give the dealer? (if any)

thanks in advance for your input

Couple of grand at the most if the cars are similarly equipped.

What are the differences in options? I'd say not much on your part if it wasn't with a dealer... They are always going to lowball your trade-in.

My sedan has a sunroof and the coupe does not.

Sedans always cost less then coupes. I would say go for it but im a coupe guy. Watch the oil consumption issue.

Try to get it without money down. They are probably going to give you a low offer on your trade in, especially if you have mods in it. Look at kbb and ask for the good condition trade-in price. If you do put money down, no more than 1500... Good luck!!!

You could always private sell your car... Get better offers?

1500 down payment. If he is selling it for 4k otd then that is a good deal. If they are asking 4k down, then you should honestly walk away or bargain it lower.

They arent going to make a lot off you so their commission is little to none. I would tell him 3k at most. If they dont go for it then just say thanks and bye. Give it a day or two im sure he will call. Just be firm and dont give in to his haggling.

If you dont then private sale your car and look for another.

Not sure what the dealer is asking for the coupe, but just for comparisons sake. I got my fully loaded auto Black '05 coupe with 42k miles for $18,995 back in May. It is fully loaded with all options except for the Nav unit. By comparison, (and I'd been looking for months before I made my purchase) I could have bought a 06-07 sedan with less miles for less then my coupe. Honestly, as a coupe fan, I'd agree that a straight across trade plus a maximum of $3,000 is all I would do on your part. Post up what options your sedan has vs what the coupe offers for a better analysis. Even better, does the dealership have a website? Does it list the coupe online with all the options selected? Blue Book both cars and see what the difference is. It'd provide you with a better bargaining point if nothing else.
