Insurance claimed my car a total loss...can I strip parts before they tow it away? like my tail lights...I mean they are going to scrap it right...so long as the wheels are on there to tow it right?

Take everything you can out of that car, it's going to the scrap yard anyways. Tails, driver headlight (If it's still ok), ballasts, plenum, midpipe, backseat, window motors, etc. You can come out with a little extra cash, in addition to your mods, if you can strip some parts.

^^ technically no. The insurance companies tries to make a little money back by selling the rest of the car to dismantlers if its a loss. If your car is not in the same condition as when the claims adjuster came by.... your claim might come into question. It really depends on the insurance company and how strict they are. I believe total loss cars are auctioned off to the highest bidder and dismantled or rebuilt as a salvaged car. I was able to switch out a few things when my Z was totaled before it was taken, but not to the point of stripped. I'm by far no expert, just relating what was told to me by the adjuster at that time. Maybe a few members might chime in before they take the G. Good luck in the future and stay well.

I know for State Farm, I was able to part my car as long as I had an OEM replacement. Luckily I kept all of my OEM parts so I salvaged most of my mods except for the suspension which sucked big time. I never talked to them about it officially in regards to my claim, I just made an anonymous call because I didn't want to draw extra attention to myself.

If you hand back your totaled car completely stripped, they may charge you money or deduct $$ from your settlement. I don't know how they do it, but it'd be kind of crazy to think they're going to give you market value on the car and you can give them back a rolling chassis.
