Car dealerships and Car rentals required that you have auto insurance before they loan you their car.
So obviously, when you drive someone's car and crash it, your insurance company should cover the damages to the other car.
On the other hand, 21st Century Insurance covers your car no matter who drives it. BUT, I'm guessing they will go after the driver to get back the lost.

from my understanding, most insurance companies cover rental or substitute vehicles, so in this case I'm hoping his insurance cover the cost of both the repair/replacement of mine and the repair of the BMW. Most likely what will happen is that my insurance company fixes the BMW and then goes after his insurance company for payment of damages caused by him. With regards to my car, i hope his insurance company will cover the car and just total it out. I don't want to drive a wrecked car.
So yeah, idiot move on my part to let him drive the car. I never imagined he would be so reckless, I should have seen it a mile away. All things considered, he made a mistake but I'm not going to let our friendship be compromised by a car. **** happens, deal with it and move on. He's good for the money regardless of what happens with his insurance company, so I guess everything will eventually be okay. He is a long time friend and honestly I'd rather be out the money then his friendship. Maybe I'm stupid but I'll put my money on my friends and family any day before I put it on my assets.
If they total it out, I will probably buy the car back from the insurance company and sell it off. I already have a few guys interested in it. This could be a good thing.....

In North Carolina you have to have insurance to get a license, even if you don't have a car. So if you don't have your own car and you get into an accident driving someone else's car, you still have insurance that will cover for whatever you have on your policy.
