Bearings got damaged in transit?

Take a look at the following images. I ordered 2 front wheel hub assemblies from Riverside Infiniti. Notice in the first image how the top outer edge of the bearing is damaged. In the 3rd image notice how the outer edge is pushed in towards the center (look at the bottom of the bearing). In the image it doesn't look that bad, but in real life it is bad. I'm more concerned about this, than the first 2. The first 2 images only show minor damage, but the 3rd image for the 2nd bearing shows serious deformation. I think the problem is that both of these hub assemblies were packaged in the same box and the only protection were the foam peanuts. Obviously the foam peanuts won't provide enough protection for these 2 heavy objects. I'm planning on doing an exchange for the 2nd hub. What do you think?

I would pm riverside and ask for a return. They seem pretty good w/ people on driver and helping out. They may have to file a claim with their shipper, but that shouldnt be on you.

After a month I was able to resolve it. Very bad experience! Here is what happen. I contact seller through ebay to exchange the defective bearing. Seller responded the next day saying he/she has made a UPS call tag and that the UPS guys will try to pick up the item from the deliver address. UPS guys never arrived. My wife was home all 3 days. So I send a message again saying just email me the UPS tag and I will print it off and drop it off at a UPS location.

Received no response for 2 weeks! I sent multiple messages to make sure they were getting my messages. I filed a claim with ebay and after a week ebay refunded my money. I left negative feedback for this. I noticed there were 2 other negative feedbacks in the past month because the seller did not respond.

I noticed that when I view an item by the seller it says at the top that the seller will be away until March 26, 2011! That is ridiculous. So the seller will be gone for 2 months (Feb & Mar)! At least someone should check the emails in ebay so the buyers aren't left hanging. It is an infiniti dealership, so there are many people there who could've handled this.

I will stay away from riverside until they fix their customer service. I have bought a lot of things from them (more than $1000 worth), and was going to in the future, but no more.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience you had with them. However, things happen occasionally. I understand your reasoning behind the seller being gone for two months, that is pretty ridiculous, but parts can get damaged in transit.

In the end, you did get your money back so at least something worked out, regardless of whether it was truly what you wanted or not.

What do I think? I think maybe Infiniti is making crappy bearings and hub assemblies. Had to have one replaced on my 07 X last month. This is basic stuff, wheel bearings on non-abused, and even most abused vehicles, should not go bad at all. Ever.

I'd inspect any new ones that you get from Infiniti very very carefully.

I have noticed the service level started to fall off after Tony left and now Rick has left as well. I wouldn't get return PMs, return phone calls, or return e-mails.

It's the people that make great service happen and Riverside has lost 2 great ones. Yes they could get decent prices, but if I need some dealership help these days my go to guy is Tim@Grubbs Infiniti. It's just sad because Riverside was so good to us for so long a lot of us got used to it. Great service is a dying commodity in today's world and when I find it I latch on like a 1 month old on his momma's t!tty.

Other members here are saying they would eventually go bad no matter what because the amount of force they have to endure everyday. I'm sure they can make them stronger so that they last more than 100k miles.

That doesn't make any sense. The size and capacity of the wheel bearing/hub assembly has to be matched to the demands being placed upon it. This isn't rocket science. Wheel bearings are probably the most basic part on a vehicle. If Dodge/Jeep/GM/Yugo/Kia can get it right, then Infiniti should be able to. If they can't then you just have to wonder where else they are cutting corners.

The US and Japan decline. China and Korea emerge.

^ If other cars don't have bearing issues, then this sucks.

^ Actually, it's Nissan's fault not Japan. Mostly the G35 are the one with the most issues.

From window motors, compression rod bushings, oil consumptions and wheel bearings. The list goes on and on.
