what the heck ?

just put on my Z1 test pipes.... they hiss when im off the gas and in gear... also the sound is incredibly raspy..

What would hi flow cats do instead of just test pipes ?

also, will the pipes sound change after it has been driven and sort of broken in ?

The hissing noise is caused by poor quality gaskets or installed incorrectly, there is no break in period for pipes....it is what it is! When I installed my BERKS I bought new OE gaskets to make sure I didn't have leaks....

Is your TP's resonated or non? Resonated will rasp a lil but not as much as non resonated ones. Also buy better quality gaskets and ensure all bolts are tight. HFC's or ART pipes will not give rasp (most of the time) TP's will in almost every case. I have resonated ones and they had rasp to it as well.

Hate once again to sound like a broken record (that's what we used prior to CDs) the OE cats are were most of the restriction is in our exhaust systems. If you've ever looked inside one you'd ask yourself, "How did anything thing get thru that?" Of course the BERK'S HFCs are worth it, your legal and no less than 8 HP gain along with zero rasp....that's hard to beat!

Gary who knew you were so funny!!

I'll bet most of our members have never heard music from an 8 track tape either.

I think all TP's make that hiss sound. Look up videos on youtube. I heard there WAS a break in time for TP's drive it for a few hundred miles and if it doesn't go away sell them.

Hey Gary..

I just recently installed Berks HFC on my car and I get what the OP is getting.. When I press on the gas I get a hissing sound from about 2500-3500 RPM..

So you think it is the gaskets?

I know that when you let off the gas there is a quick hiss but I hear that is normal of the HFC's.

when i installed them should i have gotten new gaskets? i thought the multi layered oem ones can be re-used..

I got them to make the stock exhaust louder with some backfire.. but they are so raspy.. would getting resonated test pipes take the rasp away ? and do HFC's change the sound or just allow for better flow?

Thanks for all the help !

HFC will restrict the flow compared to test pipes. Not by much but they will. Resonated would get rid of most of the rasp but there still would be some rasp in the exhaust.

My hissing is around 2000 to 3000... And it doesn't stop hissing till it falls below 2000 when I'm off the gas and coasting

I have the Megan Test pipes, I still had rasp, not much though. If you plan on doing a cat-back exhaust after that you still will have rasp in it. I cut the rasp out of mine by putting in a magnaflow resonated X-pipe muffler. If I were to do it again I would get HFC's or MD ART pipes. I think when I get back to the mainland I will replace the Megan with the ART pipes. better flow on the low end (better low end torque) and sound quality (hopefully I drop all of my droning in the cabin)

Yeah, I have all stock exhaust except for the test pipes right now, down the road il end up putting on a cat-back exhaust. let me know how those ART pipes are when you get em.

im thinking about getting the MREV2 so money wise idk if the ART's are worth it over Megan TP....

And on a side note, I'v never had the check engine light come on.. But today a " service engine soon" light came on. is that the check engine light or did the dealer just forget to reset the timer during the last oil change?
