Painting wheels tomorrow, pics to come...

Yup, I'm sick of the black streaks and curb rash on my 18 inch stock wheels... so I'm painting them tomorrow. As others have noted, an exact color match isn't available, but I'm starting with Ford code YN and will be altering the color a bit from there to get a decent match.

I'll post pictures after I'm done, and also the formula I used... in case anyone wants to have a bodyshop mix it up for them.

Nice. Been considering doing my stock 18's also. Are you going gloss, satin, or matte?

I'm planning to go with gloss so that they look as close to stock as possible, I love the look of the stock 18's. I'll be sure to take before pics as well after I take the wheels off the car.

Can't wait to have my wheels clean like they should be! Although I'm not psyched about seeing my car up on the lift all day, gathering a good inch of shop dust all over it!

Very nice... my project may be held up a couple of days. The boss busted a rim on his beemer and is occupying our lift until the insurance adjuster gets here. Blegh.

Nice I can't wait to see pics. I have also been considering painting my stock 18s too. Will probably go with a flat black on my laser red coupe.

Actually my father and I run a body shop, so I'll be spraying in the booth with our PPG paint. What I'm undecided about is which option to choose:

1) Experiment around and try to duplicate the original "hyper silver" color... I'd do this by laying down the black base coat, then spraying mostly clearcoat, but with some silver metallic mixed in... thoughts?

2) Just pick a very metallic silver (such as the Ford YN code), but use a semi-gloss clearcoat for a deeper effect

3) Just pick a nice looking silver and spray it normally, base coat clear coat.

Any opinions/suggestions?

Good luck, it's not too hard to paint wheels so they should turn out good!

Now that I fixed my wheels up I am thinking about selling them. What do you think I could get for my DPE R16's?
