Odometer accuracy

I checked my odometer against the mile markers on the interstate (I55). My odometer is about 4% low. My odometer indicated 48 miles compared to 50 miles using the mile markers. I have a 04 6mt with the stock 18" pilot sport. Tire pressure is 32 psig. My previous cars were within 1 to 2%. Has anyone else checked the odometer? If the odometer is off by 4%, the speedometer is probably off by 4%.

Re: Odometer accuracy

This is normal with 18 inch wheels on coupe. I tested 4.45% difference (10 mile stretch - several times). Watch your speed!

Re: Odometer accuracy

My odometer (on my Coupe) is right on. My speedo is off by 2% (reads low).
From my experience, there is no correlation between errors in speedo and odo.

It may not amount to much, but inflate your tires to spec. (35psi) and check again.
Also tire wear will have some bearing on accuracy

Check your speed and distance against different markers. Sometimes they are off by a lot.

Re: Odometer accuracy

Isn't that a good thing if your odometer is low. You would look like u haven't put on as much miles as u actually did.

Re: Odometer accuracy

Both my odometer an speedometer seem pretty accurate. I've compared it to a handheld GPS.

Re: Odometer accuracy

Increasing the air pressure will make the tires larger and make the error bigger.

Re: Odometer accuracy

I've been working to keep my tires at the right pressure. Easier, now, that I replaced the gauge that I thought was good, but apparently got 5 pounds off as it got old. (I was having the tire monitor go off unless I took the tires to "31").
