Paint spots on 18"wheels
Paint spots on 18"wheels
My 6MT has a white paint blob on all four wheels. They were there from the factory because the Pilot Sports have a red dot on the sidewall that is indexed to the paint spots.
Dealer says they can't remove the white without ruining the wheel finish.
This seems like a BS system to have to live with blobs of white paint on each wheel. One wheel they dribbled the paint so it actually looks like a gouge until you look closer.
Anybody notice this? Can it be removed safely?

There's been a few that have done this here. Only one I can think of is 'Afr0puff'. Do a search in his name or P/M him.*That's a zero in his name not an O*
Seems to me he said his paint spots were soft and could be scraped off with his fingernail.... See what he says anyway bro.. G/L

Re: Paint spots on 18"wheels
They were on my 6MT too. They are for balancing the wheels at the factory I think. The paint is very smooth but also very brittle. With some soap and a little care it'll come off easy. I VERY CAREFULLY used my small swiss army knife to chip it off. Once the paint was cracked it came of real easy. Just be carefull of the clear coat. I think someone else used a plastic puddy knife aswell. Good luck!

Damn, I have it to. But mine are perfect circles of paint. It comes off slowly. Everytime I wipe down my wheels I take off a little more.

I was able to remove my white paint spots with rubbing alcohol and my fingernail. Just soften the paint with the alcohol dab at the paint and pick at it....it will come off.

They're for balancing. It's either the heavy or the light spot on the rim. You match the heavy spot on the rim with the light spot on the tire so you don't have to add as much weight to balance them when mounting.

Re: Paint spots on 18"wheels
The spots are to identify the highest spot on the wheel and matches up with the lowest spot on the tire to have as little wheel run out as possible. I took mine to the car wash and power washed it off. Came off in 1 minute.

Re: Paint spots on 18"wheels
Just a comment on the spots. They mark the low point on the rim so that the harmonic high point of the tire (red dot) when match mounted to the low point allos the tire whell combinatation to have a lower radial 1st harmonic. This improves ride because high radial 1st harmonic levels contributes to a bad rides. This has nothing to do with
