as the title says, my car tends to make a loud rattling noise from underneath when I am at a stop light, but it will go away if I push the clutch down (sound comes back when I release the clutch). any idea on how to fix this issue?

 

I drive an 06 coupe 6MT

 

Very normal and common. Only with 6mt's. Search clutch chatter and you should find all the info you need or noisy clutch.

 

Sounds like it's your throw out bearing. How many miles are on the clutch?

 

For any 6mt G, the flywheel and clutch chatter is a normal and is a result of the design of the car. Its due to the weight of the flywheel and clutch.

You can go with an aftermarket setup thats a little heavier to reduce the noise but that would definitely change the driveability of the car. Good/bad change is dependent upon preference.

Guys that are racing the cars want a lighter clutch/flywheel combo which results in louder chatter.

great reads, thanks for the info. does anyone know if this type of thing is covered under the manufacture warranty (up to 70K)? seems like some people said they got the TO bearing replaced from the dealership and it helped reduce the sound?

 

replacing the throw out bearing wont fix it. I just had that done a few months ago and it is very expensive. I still have the same chatter now. The chatter is normal and will never go away.

 

What he is describing is not clutch chatter. Chatter happens when you engage the clutch and he isnt doing that.

 

My 04 6mt coupe had a terrible rattle when sitting still, freaked me the hell out to be honest. But come to find out my cats had broken down inside. But in some high flows and no more rattle.

 

Im not sure if you read the title of this thread, but yes the sound does go away when you engage the clutch. If it doesnt go away then yes you may have another problem. Chatter should not happen when your clutch is engaged.

 

^ yes, my sound goes away with the clutch pressed down fully. comes right back when I let my foot off the pedal. so this is a common problem that there is no real fix to it seems?

 

I talked to several different mechanics at the Infiniti dealership here in Denver and they all said that it is normal and that it wont go away. It sure does suck.

 

Yeup welcome to a 6MT. We drive the reasonably priced rattle box :-P Please see -----> Axle Click, Cutch Chatter, Creaky Sunroof, Random other misc. noises that come with driving a G35..........




But I wouldnt trade it for anything in the world :-) I love my rattle box

 

ah okay, well that does kind of suck but at least I know I'm not alone haha. since we're talking about little glitches with our 6MT's, has anyone else felt it is sometimes pretty difficult to shift from 5th to 6th gear without putting a lot of effort onto the shifter?
