Not impressed with BMW

So Friday night I went to dinner/play with my best friend. She has a brand new BMW 325i. From where we had dinner to where the play was, was about 25-30 miles, she asked me if I would drive because she had heels on, LoL. Anyways, i usually drive my G in MM, so of course when i get it the car I popped that ish over and played with the BMW MM. The shifting of the car was much quicker/better than the G, imo. But let me just say after driving that thing on the highway, and touring around the city for 30 minz or so, im very happy i did not get a BMW. The steering was very loose, nothing like the G, the brakes suck, the power is blah, and the worst thing is that car cost so much more than mine. And to top it all off, it's [censored] ugly! On the other hand, her father just got a 645 convertable, now that things bad ***!

Re: Not impressed with BMW

A 325i cost much more than your G? We had a 325, was 36k and some change and that's with the sport package. I agree though that the steptronic feels better than the manumatic in the G. The ride is kinda rough for 17" and to me the G is not as bad even though it's on 18". Pickup is pretty decent for a 184hp car (which is greatly undervalued). The system is better than the Blose too btw.

The front end's alright, but I hate the nasty orange in the tails. But that's another story... All in all, the E46 is not as bad-looking as the E90 that's coming out in spring. The problem is that 3 series BMWs are all over the place, so nobody pays attention to them anymore. They don't give you that "it's the s***" feeling that the G does.

Re: Not impressed with BMW

The G35 Coupe is in a class by itself.

When will Lexus or Acura make something comparable?

I'm not that impressed with the BMW's in the G's price range.

Re: Not impressed with BMW

well isn't lexus supposed to be coming out with the new IS model next year? that will probably compete with the G...

as for BMWs, they've lost their wow factor... the fact that their are so many on the road and that they all look alike don't help that... even the new 3 series is very blah... as far as the name is concerned, its still a stronger brand than Infiniti but i don't think paying that extra money for a brand name is worth it... I mean although I do buy my clothes based on brand name, the price difference isn't in the thousands of dollars range..

its funny cuz i get complements all the time about my car from strangers on the street lol... i wonder if they even know what car i have...

Re: Not impressed with BMW

A few comments....

1) there are two types of BMW drivers: those w/ a stick, and those w/ autos. What I mean is those w/ sticks are car enthusiasts who want to DRIVE their car; those w/ autos just want the BMW as a status symbol and are probably crappy drivers to begin with.

2) Since 3-series cars are just as commonplace as Civics in my area, maybe that is why BMW is moving the new 3 upscale, which will make the upcoming 1-series the everyman's car.

3) the G is a better value than the 3-series and is more performance oriented, especially compared to the 325i. You do get 4 years of free service though, which adds up to a couple grand I guess.

Re: Not impressed with BMW

I've recently been involved w/ this. My wife fell in love with both the G35 and a 330 coupe. The end of the story is that Infiniti bent over backwards so we could be in a brand new coupe w/ all the options she wanted and BMW didn't feel like they had to do anything to gain our business at all.

Personally I'm thrilled, even BMW owners admit there remains electrical gremlins in their cars, there is the percieved status that I have a little issue with, + the price issue, aside from that BMW makes about the finest handling car period.

The end result, the G has GOBS of torque, more power by a nice stretch IMHO than the 330 did, a great feel to it, nice (if not a little heavy) handling and has a lot of wow factor. I love being in a car not instantly recognized, and when it is it's given respect.

BMW has an awesome product, but they won't stay there if they don't start paying attention and trying harder to make a lot of us happier, there are offerings that are at least equal if not better in many respects that don't make driving a Bimmer worth it to me.

Just my long winded $.02

Travis

(edit: my comments are based on our '04 G35 Coupe vs. '04 330Ci w/ a sports package, it's completely unfair to pit the G up against a 325, less so one w/o the SP. And since we paid more than $10k less for the G........)

Re: Not impressed with BMW

A little off subject but, omg, when i first went to look at a 330ci a few years ago, i was 17. I walked into the dealership, absolutely no one bothered to say Hi, or anything of such nature. After a few minutes playin with the coupe, the guy walks over hes like can i help u, im like [censored] yeh dude. I was drivin an is 300 at the time but i didnt like that thing at all. I sat down with him for like 2 minutes he said this is how much it costs this is how much i can deal.. $0. Anyways ive looked a few more times with the same issues at the delaerships. BMW as a car does not appeal to me that much or hell even at all, but ive seriously had no good run ins with any sales guys there. Funny thing is i was having lunch right next to an Audi delaership, i walked over and looked the the new A4 (March 02) new body style u know, anyways the guy was more than happy to show me the car, talk about it, test drive the [censored] outta it with me, yeh i bought that car 45 minutes later and have never looked at BMW since. Now with the G same thing, every dealership i went to was very like so you wanna test drive it? even tho half the time i went i was in my friends. i dont understand bmw, i drove a [censored] cl 600 cuz i got bored one day and the guy at mbz was f****n tyte az hell i was scared to even test drive an m3 cuz those f***s are so stingy

Re: Not impressed with BMW

That's the fun part of being 22 and being able to afford $40K+ cars. I walked into BMW and wanted to take out a used M3, the guy simply said "You know how it drives, come back with your dad." That's when you say (way louder than you need to) "Are you seriously passing judgement on me? SIR, YOU ARE A CAR SALESMAN!" I went to Mercedes however and they tossed me the keys to a C32 and told me to be back in a half hour. Same experience with the G, I walked in with jeans and a T-shirt on and they tossed me the keys to not one, but TWO cars for a half hour each. That impressed me enough to get the car. The best part was that I completed my whole transaction over the phone, then when it came time to take delivery the woman simply could not believe her eyes when I introduced myself. She just sold a $39K car to a 22 yr old.

Re: Not impressed with BMW

I got that same [censored] when i went to buy my Si at 17, from ****in' honda! I'm now 21, still got the Si, got a 03 cbr RR and my G. infiniti didn't give me [censored] with test drives and [censored], but they did say [censored] like " are your parents buying this for you?" Which pissed me off. they shut up when i cut them a check for 10,000 down....

I'm a college dropout (will go back when I set some goals). I make 50 g's a year (plus my investments in certain stocks), and have a nice place...only debt, is remaining G payments. My downfall, I look younger than I am.

Re: Not impressed with BMW

Lighten up, if you are 17-22 years old, no matter what your sitation you do have something to prove. How many people that age have the financial stability to afford a $30k+ car, if you do, cool, congratulations either you have done well or you are real lucky.

Don't go into a dealership expecting a problem, if you feel you get a lack of respect, look respectful and TALK respectful, goes a long way. There will always be ****** at certain places no matter what age, race, income level etc will not find it in themselves to be decent and they DON'T DESERVE your business, there are other places to shop!

Sorry, rant over
