Beginning to rethink my recent purchase of my G35
Hi everyone,
I just bought last week a 2005 G35 auto, base model, silver with dark gray interior, 24,500 mile. One owner car. He had all records from day one and always serviced at the dealer where bought. Car looks like it just came off of the showroom floor. I thought I had made a great buy on a very nice car. Then I joined this site and after reading a few things on this site such as tires cupping, oil consumption, etc. This car is just going to be a everyday driver with no mods that my wife can drive. Does anyone have cars on here that have been trouble free except for regular maintainance items. Maybe I should just turn around and sell it. And yes I am a newbe to this site. I would love to here your thoughts on this. Thanks

You do not have a revup engine so no need to worry about oil consumption. I personally would keep the with great proformance, styling, and an award winning motor that lasts 200+ miles. The end result is all yours and take everyone opinion with a grain of salt but the ball is in your court. My car has no had any problems what so ever expect for regular maintenance and the compression rod which is also a simple fix.
With ANY car their are issue that allot of people will have. And when you join a forum for a specific car of course they will report it. but fact of the matter is the G is a great car and you may or may not have issues like the rest. i know many people that have taken care of their cars and still runs great with NO major issues. Hope this helps. and with an 05 auto you are less prone to have OC issue.
Be happy with your purchase. If you are still under warranty you can get your motor replaced. I know tons of non rev up motors that have no problems whatsoever. Maintenance is relatively cheap for this car considering it's a luxury brand.
Every car has their quirks but the G35 is pretty much bullet proof. I know several people running on the stock engine up to 200k+, and chances are you won't keep it around until them judging by the low mileage car you bought.
If you insist on getting another car look into the old Lexus' with the 2JZ-GE, or a Supra. Very nice engines, very reliable, but they have their quirks. For example I know people driving these cars into the 300k range. But you have to replace lower ball joints and tie rods, timing belts (G35's don't have them) and door locks go out pretty frequently.

i mean its not a hyundai as far as warranties go... but it sure is reliable. I've had an 03 and an 06 coupe... neither gave me trouble. And when i took it in to maintain, everything was covered under the warranty! fun, solid cars, you and the wife'll love it

Just remember that people mostly only vocalize ISSUES and take for granted when all is well. If you wanted to truly buy a trouble free car that has NO negative feedback, you'd have to buy a honda (and only then because their owners are in denial.)
You have an AT, so no oil consumption issue. Anything beyond that is just proper maintenance.
Find out when the last wheel alignment was done, and check tire pressures every few weeks.
Depending on which previous car you're coming from, the only common complaint you'll have is gas mileage.. which is about 17-19mpg city.

From what I have read it is only MT trans and not AT trans. Im I correct on this? What is the correct tire pressure to maintain? It says 30 front 30 rear with the 17 inch wheels.
Its all good in the hood
