Tranny or Flywheel Making Noise

After installing my Stillen Filter and went ofr a test drive, in the garage I noticed my tranny was making noise. Not sure if this is normal. But when I press the clutch in the noise goes away.

Is this normal? I'm letting the car cool down now and going to fire it up to see if the noise is still there.

Re: Tranny or Flywheel Making Noise

is it a frequent ticking noise? it could be coming from somewhere near the intake... sometimes this happens with these cone filters...

More of a silent gargling noise. Only happens when the clutch is not depress. I can hear it pretty well when I'm in the garage, but not to bad outside.

Mine is doing it too. I'm worried it's the throw out bearing for the clutch. My toyota truck made a simliar noise before I had to have the throw out bearing replaced. **Sigh** I'll check with the dealer. [sad]

Gah!!
Keep me posted in what the dealers says.

I'm hoping this is a normal thing and all 6MT's do it. Hopefully other people will check it out and all of them come out with the same result. If you other guys check, make sure you are in a garage so you can hear what I am talking about.

Mine did this but I thought this is normal, there is always a differnet sound when clutch is fully depressed, this is because the plate start spinning when you're not pressing the clutch..I was told that this happens to some cars and some cars you dont hear a difference..

Re: Tranny or Flywheel Making Noise

I have had the same clutch engagement noise in the neutral shift position from day one. I have always considered it normal as the clutch plate is in contact with the transmission turning some goodies inside. Your heaing the goodies in the tranny not the engine or clutch plate. The change in noise is more noticable when the power train is cold. The noise goes away when you press down on the clutch to disengage it. Thats my take on the topic.

Found out what the noise was. It's my syncro's. This is not a normal sound. I went to an infiniti dealer and they said they will probably have to change the tranny. I just have to make some time to do this.

What's up with the G35C's tranny? I keep seeing posts about people's concerns with it.

The tranny's are shot....Im on my second one...and i think a third one is on the way....random gears grind all the time..mostly 2nd, 3rd and 5th at random times...the clutch is fully depressed....the snycros are just shot in these tranies...We should have double or triple cone syncros like the ones found in the subaru impreza sti...that is the smoothest shifting tranny in the world...IMO

And some here were looking down on the STi. Hmmmmmh? You'd figure that Nissan builds the Skyline with pretty good trannies...... But I guess they had to cut corners somewhere.

Re: Tranny or Flywheel Making Noise

Yea It would have been nice to have the r34 gearbox in our cars..but I guess it just doesn't bolt up to the motor...plus the gears would have been diff cuz of the turbos...maybe it wouldnt be so nice..nonetheless.....hopefully soon there will be a fix or for the 2004 model year they will have corrected this problem...This could possibly hurt the resale value of our Gs in the future, because it is a big problem.
