Upgrading the G35 AT Coupe...

Can anyone recommend a few ways to inexpensively get the power/speed up on the AT coupe? I’d like to get some more power. I kind of wish I bought the MT…

Also, why is it that every modified Civic, Accord, etc wants to race? It’s crazy I have dudes constantly trying to ride my ***, cut me off and so forth. Don’t get me wrong they always lose but damn!!!

Jae

hahaha,

I had a deal like that last night, some kid in an RX-8 wanted to race, but im still breaking my car in, less than 500 miles on it. I kissed 4800 RPM and let off there.

It is a very comparable car in speed, but when I let off the kid got a big head. Although he doesn't know I didn't touch my high revs once in our 10 second get up.

My wife has gotten that a few times since we got her the car, she's quite attractive which I tell her is part of it but coming from a 4-Runner she's not been used to the boy-racer types wanting to play. She seems to have taken my attitude of "yeah right, you have to be kidding".

Sorry no valid input on making your car faster aside from the standard Intake/Exhaust mods to start with. I'm afraid if we mod her car it just might be faster than mine

As far as mods that I know of, Anyone can add or edit me if I'm wrong on anything.

Intake System-
Intake for like $150-$250. some of the better kinds Injen, Z-tube with pop-charger, Z-tube with K&N drop in. Don't expect dramatic jumps, some CAI's may actually decrease HP.
More Extensive Intake add on $400+ Crawford Plenum.

Exhaust System-
Exhaust go with Fujitsubo, RSR $800+ Or do a custom Cat Back for less.
Sport Cats, not sure of pricing
Headers $700 and up
Race Pipes, Don't know how they exactly work as far as the flow goes $300+

Brake System (If you add power, you're going to need to be able to stop)
Brake setup $2000 and up!

And the list goes...
How much do you really want to spend?
LOL... It's still a car and nothing is really inexpensive.

Ultimately, unless you do FI (turbos or SC), bolt on power mods aren't going to get you much real world benefit on this car. They may bump up your peak HP a bit, but in actual 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, you'd be lucky to gain more than a tenth or two. Bolt-ons like exhaust are really more for bragging rights or to change the sound of the car. So enjoy what you have, mod it if you feel like it, but don't expect too much. the last edition of Sport Z magazine, which had 17 or so different G35's all test on the same dyno on the same day, all with different levels of mods, showed no discernible pattern of hp/tq increase. In fact, the stock, unmodified 6MT coupe had one of the highest dyno numbers of any of the cars tested.

Yeah you're right, a lot of parts are good the way they are.
Unless their is a proven increase in air flow, don't even touch it. Some of those intakes will even suck in more hot air from the engine than from outside. You have to watch the placement.
The only way to really know is to test everything against stock.

Also every car is different, my car could make 224 at wheels and your's could be 228 and that is stock. Maybe it's the way you broke it in, or maybe my spark is a little off, who knows.

Exactly, lexicon. But it sure is fun to tinker, isn't it? ;-)

Sherwooa has a valid point. Unless you plan on spending excess amounts to gain some HP here and there, the significant way to get enormous HP is through FI.

Tinkering is the best, you can really test to see if that homemade intake really did do something.
Used to do it all the time on my old S70, rearranging the intake, and doing this and that. It was fun, the gains were very marginal but the sounds sure did make up for it. Sounded like I had a little turbo.
